We are delighted to announce that we are sponsoring Yorkshire youth ice-skating sensations Eleanor Hirst and Jake Fearnley with £500 to help the couple compete in international competitions.
The sponsorship will help 15-year-old Eleanor from Rotherham and 17-year-old partner Jake from Bradford, who are currently ranked as the UK’s number two young ice-skating duo, to continue with their top level training.
The pair, who won first place in the British Novice Ice Dance Championship in 2012, went on to gain third place in the much higher standard junior category in November 2013 and have only been partners since November 2011.
Anne Bagshaw, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire, comments: “Here at Taylor Wimpey we are always keen to support local talent. With The Wickets development being so close to Eleanor’s home in Rotherham, and having seen the couple in action – we just had to get involved and offer them support.
“Eleanor and Jake are unbelievably good. It isn’t unrealistic to think that we might see them competing for the UK and representing Yorkshire in the Winter Olympics one day. So the thought that we can support them at this critical stage in their development is fantastic and we wish them the best of luck for the future!”
Michael Hirst, Eleanor’s father, says: “We’re so proud of Eleanor and Jake for coming this far, but due to the lack of available funding for ice-skaters, their dedication and progress has reached the stage where it needs a real push.
“Thanks to Taylor Wimpey’s generous donation, they now have a choice of internationals to compete in, and I’m confident they will go on to win many more prominent awards in the future.”
Following their triumph in the UK, the duo is planning to put the funding towards training in the USA as they prepare to compete at the 2015 Junior World Championship’s in Estonia.
