Taylor Wimpey - Willowcroft Community School - Book Donation website

We’ve donated £100 to Willowcroft Community School in Didcot to help purchase some much-needed new books for the school’s library.

Our Oxfordshire region made the donation after Charlotte Jones, a Year 5 pupil in the Kingfisher class, wrote a letter to us appealing for sponsorship to provide new reading material for the primary school children.

Dominique Brown, Year 5 teacher at Willowcroft Community School, says: “As part of ‘World Book Day’ all pupils in the year 5 and 6 classes sent out letters to appeal for support, and the only response we received was from Taylor Wimpey after they read Charlotte’s letter.

“The school library was starting to get a bit tatty and out of date, so this sponsorship is a great boost for us.”

‘World Book Day’ took place this year on Thursday 5th March. All pupils from the school were involved in different ways, with those in year 5 and 6 taking part in a class task to write an appeal.

Charlotte (9) says: “When the letter came from Taylor Wimpey to say they were helping us I felt very happy and relieved, because I was the only person to get sponsorship, so I would like to say thank you. All of my friends said well done and they are all really excited to read the new books.

“We will hopefully be getting some books from new authors and also some text books for things like ICT, as we don’t have any like that at the moment, so that would be good.”

Nikki Gibson, Associate Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey Oxfordshire, says: “We were delighted to be able to offer our support to Willowcroft Community School, especially after receiving Charlotte’s lovely letter. We feel it’s very important to support local schools and encourage children in their education.

“We hope the school will really benefit from our donation and we hope the pupils enjoy reading their new books.”
