Our team at Almond Park in Musselburgh, Scotland, is getting right behind one of their homeowners at the development as he prepares to run the Edinburgh Marathon this May!

Taylor Wimpey East Scotland donated £250 to Iain Houston to help him smash his fundraising target of £2,000 for BLISS, a UK charity that works to provide the best possible care and support for all premature and sick babies and their families.

Just over a year ago on 3rd January 2014, Iain’s son Parker Clayton was born eight weeks early weighing just 4lbs and 13oz at Simpsons Maternity Hospital at Edinburgh’s Royal Infirmary. It was a very traumatic time for the family but taking part in his first marathon gives Iain an opportunity to show their support for a charity that really helped them in their hour of need.

Iain explains: “My wife Laura and I had already had a fairly traumatic journey before Parker arrived with Laura’s waters breaking at 26 weeks. When Parker was born, the first 48 hours were very tough for him. But after time in high dependency and intensive care units with special care from numerous doctors and nurses at Simpsons Neonatal Unit Edinburgh, every day he just got stronger and stronger.

“BLISS offered our family so much support at such a difficult time, so setting myself the challenge of a marathon and raising funds is our way of saying thank you and giving something back to support the work they do every single day.

“I’m really thrilled that Taylor Wimpey has confirmed their donation of £250, plus my colleagues at work have been amazing too by embracing my ‘Spare Change Challenge’ which has raised hundreds of pounds so far.”

Our team at Taylor Wimpey East Scotland has boosted Iain’s fundraising and are confident that he will both smash his target and achieve his goal of completing his first marathon.

Karen Armstrong, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, says: “Our developments are home to so many families across the east of Scotland. In fact Iain and Laura were one of the first couples to move in at Almond Park, so when we heard of Iain’s efforts we felt compelled to show our support.

“The Sales Executives Kim and Alex can see Iain out pounding the streets on his training runs so he’s definitely preparing well for his challenge and we wish him luck for the big day.”
