We donated £2,000 towards a charity offering rehabilitation to injured firefighters – after Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service helped make our East Midlands team’s ice bucket challenge a soaking success!
The Fire Fighters Charity, which provides aid, recuperation and support to serving and retired fire personnel and their families, is funded entirely from donations including support from fire services across the country.
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service’s Southern Fire and Rescue Station, recently teamed up with our East Midlands team – which is currently building high-quality new homes at three nearby developments in the county – by using their hose reels to soak our staff members for the ice bucket challenge, and we made a donation in return.
The money will be used to support the charity’s ongoing work, with centres based in Devon, Cumbria and West Sussex.
Ben Bee, station manager at the Service’s Southern Station, says: “We always try to raise money for this cause which helps support people in so many different ways – so we were over the moon with this donation.
“Taylor Wimpey’s ice bucket challenge was a lot of fun, involving two hose reel jets that can blast water at 250 litres per minute – although we didn’t go that far! What started out as a light drizzle certainly turned into a torrential downpour for all the staff that we soaked!
“We all want to thank Taylor Wimpey for their kind contribution, which really will have such a significant benefit for the firefighters who use these wonderful facilities.”
The Fire Fighters Charity has helped hundreds of thousands of individuals with its services, including emotional recuperation for those who have suffered injury, illness, stress or bereavement.
Mariana Knight, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey East Midlands, says: “As a local housebuilder in this area, we were so grateful for the help that Leicestershire Fire and Rescue gave us in making our ice bucket challenge a huge – and very wet – success!
“We were more than happy to make this donation to support such a worthy cause, and we hope our contribution will help with the vital aid that this charity provides.”
