The Halow Project receives a helping hand
The Halow Project, a Surrey based charity dedicated to helping young people with learning disabilities, has won a £250 donation from our South Thames team after being voted the most deserving cause for the cash by visitors to our Station View development in Guildford.
We’re running a donation box scheme at Station View and are inviting visitors to the development to vote for one of three local charities, community groups or fundraising initiatives each month.
Ann Kenney, Director of the Halow Project, says: “The project has been running for 10 years now and supports young people in Surrey between the ages of 16-35 who have learning difficulties.
“We like to encourage independence through social activities and doing things that our youngsters may not be able to do without the support from the Halow Project.
“We run a number of different programmes to help support our youngsters, with the overall aim of teaching them life and personal skills which can help them find part-time work, hobbies and interests.”
The inspiration for ‘halow’ came in 2006 from the initials of Harriet, Amber, Laura, Oliver and William, who each have a learning disability. Their parents and friends came together to form the Halow Project which now supports over 170 youngsters each year.
Ann continues: “Funding is vital to us as we need to raise around £500,000 a year to keep the Halow Project going. Without donations and support we simply wouldn’t be able to operate. It has become very difficult to provide social care in the area due to the recent cuts to funding in Surrey.
“Having the support from Taylor Wimpey is very exciting for us as it shows they are interested in our community.”
Susan Joseph, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey South Thames, says: “As a local housebuilder, we are committed to supporting the communities in which we build our new homes and this is a great example of the way we can help.
“We are delighted to be supporting the Halow Project, which does such vital work in the local area.”
There’s a fabulous selection of stylish two bedroom apartments currently available at Station View.
