Theatre group in Bridgwater receives cash boost
Our Bristol team have donated £800 to a local production of the classic musical 42nd Street, performed by the Bridgwater Operatic Society in Somerset.
The contribution is a welcomed relief for the talented amateur dramatic society – which has frequently dealt with budget restrictions during previous productions – as members plan to use the £800 donation on making and hiring numerous costumes for their creative cast.
Made up of over one hundred volunteers who live in and around the area of Bridgwater, where our Bristol business unit is currently building high-quality new homes at Kings Down, the theatre group will be performing the last UK-based run of the famous musical before it heads back to the West End stage.
Gavin Roberts, Chairman of the Bridgwater Operatic Society, says: “On behalf of the whole Bridgwater Operatic Society I’d like to say a big thank you to Taylor Wimpey for coming to our rescue with this £800 donation and sponsoring our new musical production of 42nd Street.
“As a society we make our own costumes, as well as reuse old outfits and hire from Triple C Costumiers – so we’re using the full £800 donation to add to our costume budget.
“We set a restricted budget every year for our shows, however a production like 42nd Street is huge and needs a lot of money behind it – especially because it requires multiple costumes, not just for our leading actors and actresses but also our chorus members, who all perform big musical numbers.
“It means a lot to us that a company like Taylor Wimpey is supporting local talent. The Bridgewater Operatic society is a fantastic resource for the community that enables performers to showcase their gifts onstage and brings excellent quality West End theatre to their local town.”
Bridgwater Operatic Society’s production of 42nd Street will run from Tuesday 2nd May to Saturday 6th May at The McMillan Theatre on Lower Bath Road, Bridgwater, at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee performances at 2.30pm. Tickets are £16 with concessions available at the Tuesday, Wednesday and matinee performances. All tickets can be booked by visiting the Bridgwater Operatic Society website at www.bridgwateros.co.uk.
Danielle Heard, Acting Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey Bristol, says: “We’re proud to sponsor the Bridgwater Operatic Society and cannot wait to see the talented local performers treading the boards in this all singing, all dancing musical extravaganza!
“We’d like to wish the performers the best of luck with their upcoming shows!”
There’s currently a superb selection of two, three and four-bedroom homes available at Kings Down.
