Young footballers in Essington, Staffordshire, are celebrating after getting new kits thanks to a donation from our North Midlands business unit.

Wyrley Juniors FC, based in Long Lane, received a £250 cash injection to pay for new black and white  striped match kit for the U9 Tigers team, which they’ve already started wearing this season.

We made the donation in association with our Wards Bridge Gardens development in nearby Wednesfield.

Team manager at Wyrley Juniors FC, Lee France, says: “All the money we have coming in via the parents paying subs gets paid back out for match fees and training costs, so this sponsorship makes a massive difference.

Without it we would not have been able to get the new kit. We had the previous one for two years and it no longer fitted most of the players.

On behalf of myself and my group of eight-year-olds, I would like to say a massive thank you to Taylor Wimpey. Any donation would have been appreciated but what Taylor Wimpey gave us made so much difference. For them to take the time and effort to support my little team really is appreciated more than they would imagine.

Thank you also to the mum of one of the players, Becky O’Connor, who requested the sponsorship, through to all parties involved in the authorisation and funding.”

There are currently 10 players in the Tigers U9s who compete in the Walsall Junior Youth Football League, while the club itself has 60 teams with more than 400 players.

The club has academies for boys and girls from the age of four, right up to a walking football team for over 50s. There’s a large group of girls’ and womens’ teams, and the latest addition to the club is a disabled team.

Carl Cooke, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey North Midlands, says: “As a local housebuilder we are committed to supporting the communities in which we build our new homes, so we were only too pleased to sponsor Wyrley Juniors U9 Tigers.

“Football clubs play such an important role in local communities and we’d like to wish the team every success this season.”

There’s currently a wonderful choice of two, three and four bedroom homes available at Wards Bridge Gardens.
