The annual Two Rivers Festival hosted at Tiverton High School in Devon was a huge success once again this year, thanks to a sponsorship deal with us!

Our Exeter team, which is currently building high-quality homes at Rackenford Meadow on the outskirts of town, donated £1,300 to fund the community marquee at this year’s event, which took place between Friday 8th and Monday 11th July.

This popular festival, now in its fourth year, was organised by Tiverton Co-operative Learning Partnership (TCLP), which is formed by 11 local primary schools, Tiverton High School, Petroc College and various local businesses.

Mandy Slevin is based at Tiverton High School and works as the development officer for TCLP. She says: “Since the Two Rivers Festival began it has been hosted alongside Tiverton’s annual Balloon Festival, so the Balloon Festival has used the grounds of Tiverton High School and in return we have used their infrastructure for our event, so things like the toilets and stages.

“In the past we have hosted Two Rivers in the week leading up to the Balloon Festival, however this year its organisers have decided to take a break, but we still wanted our show to go ahead as it’s a really great event for the local community.”

We offered to sponsor the Two Rivers Festival after members of TCLP appealed to us for support.

“We approached local businesses to help set up the infrastructure we need,” says Mandy. “The community marquee has always been set up at the Balloon Festival so we still wanted to have it at our event this year.

“Taylor Wimpey’s Rackenford Meadow development is visible from the school fields where we host the festival, so we thought about approaching them as they’re part of the local community and our pupils have watched the new houses being built, so it’s really nice for them to be involved.”

The Two Rivers Festival is a ticketed event which invites the entire community to attend, and drew in around 4,000 people this year.

Mandy continues: “The marquee space was set up over the four days for local groups and businesses to showcase what they do – we had organisations such as Tiverton museum, the National Trust, Tiverton children’s centre and also local one-off shops within the town.

“With any outdoor event we had to prepare for the weather, so we couldn’t just invite people along to stand there, we needed a space for them to set up their stands properly, so a marquee was really important.

“We were delighted to be offered this support, especially as it wasn’t just a contribution towards the marquee – Taylor Wimpey actually offered to be the sole sponsor!”

The festival featured a variety of local acts over the course of the weekend, with special outdoor performances from schoolchildren.

“On Friday and Monday there were over 500 school pupils taking part in our outdoor performance, which this year was The Little Mermaid,” adds Mandy. “On Saturday there was a live music day with local bands playing throughout the afternoon and evening and on Sunday there was an outdoor performance of Shakespeare.

“Taylor Wimpey’s donation made a huge difference to the event, as we wouldn’t have been able to have the marquee without their support.

“It’s hugely important to all the local businesses and organisations as it provides the chance for people to promote what they do, particularly those who don’t normally have the chance to.

“We’re also delighted that there were some hot air balloons set off this year as reference to the Balloon Festival, as it’s a big part of the local community – so there was a mass ascent over Tiverton!

“All of the schools took part in a performance at the event, so it was really nice to get everyone together.

“We organised the event completely by ourselves this year so we wanted to make it even bigger and it was a massive feat, so we’re really grateful for Taylor Wimpey’s support.”

Clare Brimble, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey Exeter, says: “We were thrilled to be a part of such a wonderful community event which brought the entire town of Tiverton together.

“The TCLP has done a fantastic job of organising this year’s event and it was huge success, as always. We hope everyone had a great time!”

There’s a selection of two, three and four bedroom homes available at Rackenford Meadow.
