We’re backing a group of amateur footballers as they prepare to take on a squad of West Midlands legends in a match being held to raise money for a mental health charity.

The Football in Mind team will take on Peter Withe XI, comprising former professional players from Aston Villa, Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion, at Redditch United’s Trico Stadium on Saturday 11th May 2019.

The match has been organised by Richard Waite, Damien Triplett and Damien Perry in order to raise as much money as possible for Mind, the mental health charity. Matthew Preston, who works for our Midlands business unit, will join the amateur team and the housebuilder has also funded a training kit to help the players in their preparations.

Richard said: “There is a great deal of support available for those suffering from mental health issues, and in particular for young people, but these services are not always advertised as widely as they could be. I therefore wanted to raise awareness of the work that Mind does and try to show that those in need are not alone.

“I would like to thank Taylor Wimpey for getting involved in such a wonderful cause. Their support has been vital in helping us hold the match.”

Matthew Preston, Assistant Buyer at Taylor Wimpey Midlands, said: “Mental health issues can affect anyone at any time so we were happy to offer our support to Richard and the Football in Mind event. It should be a great day out and I’m looking forward to testing myself against some great players. Hopefully we will get a big crowd and raise plenty of money for the charity on the day.”

Gates open at midday on Saturday 11th May with entertainment, food and drink on offer ahead of the match, which kicks off at 3pm. Tickets are £7 for adults, £5 concessions and under-16s, and free for children under three. Further information can be found on the donation page.
