Our South Wales team has committed to raising £12,000 to support funding of a major refurbishment at the Tŷ Hafan hospice, in Sully.
Tŷ Hafan is a paediatric palliative care charity, dedicated to providing vital free care to children with life-limiting illnesses and supporting their families. The hospice is currently undertaking a vital refurbishment project to update their facilities and bring them in line with changes in medical needs. This includes the creation of a ‘Transition Suite’, an area which provides a safe environment for peer to peer support. Once finished, the Transition Suite will feature a games and cinema room.
Our South Wales team has already raised a huge £8,500 to help get the hospice over the finishing line and funds are being raised through a variety of activities.
In 2020, staff took part in the Tour de South Wales event, which saw participants cycle a total of 1111.4 miles. We also contributed £1 per mile cycled and this, paired with the generous donations from site teams, raised over £2370.
We also held a series of internal events, such as a bingo night which raised £450. In addition, we purchased a number of items from Tŷ Hafan’s Christmas wish list, including specialist toys, iPads and vouchers for the children at the hospice.
Kelly Dibble, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Tŷ Hafan said: “The past year has been extremely difficult for Tŷ Hafan. 95% of our income is reliant on donations but many of our fundraising activities came to a halt. That said, we’ve been astounded by the level of commitment from businesses like Taylor Wimpey who’ve continued to support us through these challenging times.
“They’ve found innovative ways to overcome the barriers that the pandemic created. The funds raised will help us to complete our essential refurbishment project and enable us to be there for the life-limited children and families for the next 20 years and beyond.
“All of us at Tŷ Hafan would like to say a huge thank you to all of the Taylor Wimpey staff and look forward to continuing to work together in 2021”.
Ben Thomas, Technical Director at Taylor Wimpey South Wales, said: “Tŷ Hafan provides exceptional care to children and their families. We know they are facing unprecedented pressure due to the Covid-19 pandemic, so we are delighted to lend our support.
“This year we are well on track to raise £12,000 for the hospice and have already booked in more fundraising activities, such as the ‘Ride to Rugby’ challenge in September. It is our privilege to contribute to their cause and we look forward to visiting the hospice once the refurbishment is complete.”
