We took the opportunity to bring Neilston Primary School’s new Skills Academy project to life when one of our recently qualified joiners, Fraser Martin, visited Neilston Primary School to explain how we design and build our houses.
Errin Hendry-Giles, one of our trainee Technical Management trainees, has also been teaching the pupils about how the STEM subjects play a key role in construction.
Neilston Primary School’s Skills Academy is a new way of delivering the curriculum to pupils in the school, allowing them time to focus on five different pathways. It gives the school and pupils the opportunity to work with five local partners, and we’ve proudly sponsored the Design and Manufacture aspects of the Skills Academy.
As well as providing financial support, we are visiting the school throughout the year to demonstrate the skills required on a building site, discuss the process of building a house and offering pupils an insight into what it takes to be an engineer.
Mr Curley, Headteacher at Neilston Primary School, said: “We are delighted to be working with Taylor Wimpey. Their sponsorship of this project will allow our teachers to be ambitious and innovative in their planning, meaning we can continue to deliver excellent experiences for all our learners.”
