Young footballers based in a Suffolk village have been backed by our East Anglia team, with a sponsorship deal worth almost £650!
The U14s team at Wickham Market Youth Football Club received the cash sum from us to cover the cost of brand new kit.
Tina Church, Coach/Manager for the U14s team, says: “The Taylor Wimpey logo will be on the shirts we’re playing in. Of course we’re very grateful to Taylor Wimpey for backing our club in this way.
“We’re a big, quite successful club with 11 teams altogether, from U5s to U18s, so that’s a lot of kit that needs to be bought!”
Caroline Carter, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey East Anglia, says: “Building houses is also about building communities, so we’re always delighted to help local community groups whenever we can.
“I hope this Taylor Wimpey kit helps Wickham Market Youth FC build up all the points they need for a successful season!”
The club has been going for about 15 years, doing most of their training and playing at Simons Cross playing fields in Gelham Hall Road, Wickham Market. The club has almost 200 members, including some girls who play in the same teams as boys up to the age of 13.
Nor are female managers like Tina unusual – the club has three female managers. “My two eldest sons, now 18 and 16, started playing for the club when they were seven and five, but when my youngest, now 14, wanted to start playing when he was eight there wasn’t an appropriate age team available then,” she explains.
“He was desperate to start, so I decided to start the team and manage them myself. I was turning up every week anyway and when the Suffolk FA ran Ladies Only Level One courses for football coaches, I thought I’d go along. I’ve been a team manager here ever since.”
