WEB Taylor Wimpey - Wye Christmas Street Party

Residents in the village of Wye, Kent, got into the festive spirit recently with a little help from us.

Our South East team, which is currently building high-quality new homes at our Downs View development in Wye, donated £1,000 to the village’s 20th annual Christmas street party, which took place on Friday 2nd December.

Ann Sutherland, Secretary of the Wye Jubilee Community Group, says: “The street party was originally set up to raise money for the Wye Christmas light fund, and has now grown to help support a number of fantastic local causes. This year we supported Wye Ground Force, who fill the village planters with a selection of flowers that brighten Wye up all throughout the summer.

“The street party has a great buzz around it and really brings the community together. The event is opened by the chiming of the church bells and children from the local primary school singing carols. We close the roads to traffic and have a variety of stalls, live music, a barbecue and a big inflatable slide – which is always a huge hit with the youngsters.”

The street party also benefits a number of local community groups, and our donation was used to help cover the costs associated with running the event.

“There are some great groups in Wye who have stands on the day – including the Scouts, Guides and the Women’s Institute – which means that they can raise funds for their own cause,” Ann continues.

“There are a lot of costs involved in the organising of the event. Taylor Wimpey’s donation helped towards food for the barbecue, lanterns for the tables and the street closures. By reducing our overheads we are able to raise more money to give back to the community.

“The money raised does a lot of good and really keeps our village going. We are very grateful to Taylor Wimpey for their donation.

“I hope that other villages will look at how popular our street party is and organise their own winter festivals – it’s so important to keep the community together.”

Jason Stokes, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey South East, says: “As a local housebuilder, we are committed to supporting the communities in which we build our new homes, so we were delighted to make this donation to Wye village’s Christmas street party.

“We agree that it is very important to keep communities together and we’re really pleased that the residents of Wye were able to put on a spectacular event to celebrate their 20th year.”

There’s currently a superb selection of four and five bedroom homes available at Downs View.
