First-time buyer Holly snaps up dream home
A complete coincidence found delighted first-time buyer Holly Edwards living in a street named after her grandfather at Willmott Fields.
Holly, 22, was thrilled to move into a new two-bedroom ‘Canford’ property in her hometown of Wem – on the very fields where her late grandfather Mike Blake once farmed the land.
In more recent times Holly’s grandmother, Dot, sold the land where Willmott Fields now sits and one of the development’s street names – Blake’s Meadow – harks back to its former agricultural use.
“It was a complete coincidence, not planned at all,” explains Holly. “I had read in the news that one of the streets was going to be named after my granddad but I didn’t know which.
“When I reserved the home, of course it didn’t have a street name, it was just ‘Plot 18’. It really is quite unbelievable that it’s turned out this way.
“I remember playing in these very fields when we were kids – we used to make dens there.”
HGV driver Holly made the use of the Help to Buy scheme to secure her new home, adding: “I went to visit the development and Anna in the Sales Centre was really helpful and explained everything well. I was expecting to have to save for at least another two years or more so I was understandably very excited.
“New-builds are neat and clean – you don’t need to re-decorate or worry about maintenance, and it’s also an investment for the future.”
