Getting the keys to your new home is always a special moment, but this year it was particularly exciting for Jodie Munn when she took ownership of her first new home at our Broomhouse development the day after her 25th birthday.
The young schoolteacher is thrilled to have the opportunity to step onto the ladder using the Scottish Government’s Help to Buy Scheme, which has allowed her to take ownership of her first home much sooner than she had first thought possible.
Buying her first home has been an enjoyable and stress-free process, and actually not something that Jodie was actually planning to do when she popped along to the development as she explains: “I’ve lived in the local Broomhouse area for the majority of my life so when this phase of Taylor Wimpey’s development at Broomhouse launched, I visited the sales office to see what range of properties they might have that were suitable for my dad. He’s keen to move but stay within the local area so it seemed the perfect choice.
“At the same time, I’ve been saving up to be able to buy a property of my own at some point. So, when I chatted to Gillian, the sales executive and she showed me the floorplans of the two bedroom semi-detached homes, I thought wow that’s the kind of house I would love to buy but I was sure that it would be out of my price range.
“I was just so excited when Gillian told me about the Help to Buy scheme, how it worked with the equity from the Scottish Government and I started to think that actually I could afford this.”
Eligible purchasers will receive a Scottish Government equity loan of up to 15%, which means that buyers only need to put down a 5% deposit and may only require a 80% loan-to-value mortgage.
The current Help to Buy (Scotland) measures include a 15% equity loan, which is available on new build properties up to the value of £200,000. It is possible to repay the Scottish Government at any time, and the Help to Buy (Scotland) scheme is available to both first time buyers and existing homeowners alike.
This helpful scheme has allowed Jodie to make her move to home ownership at least a year or two earlier than she thought. Jodie adds: “I’ve been saving hard to be able to buy a property, and I think with the boost the Help to Buy Scheme has given me that I’ve been able to take my first step onto the property ladder much sooner than I thought that I would. It has just been fantastic, and moving into a new home is just lovely – there’s no DIY to worry about and I just literally just had to move-in, unpack and that was me. It has been such a stress-free experience, and I would recommend it to anyone.
“The team at Taylor Wimpey are so helpful, and they even put me in touch with an IFA and a solicitor who just kept everything moving and on-track for me. Their aftercare service is also brilliant – when you move in they show you how everything works, but it’s such a lot to take in. Liz, my customer care manager, has been really helpful and she checks in with me regularly to make sure that I’m OK.”
It will be a family affair at the development soon for Jodie, as her dad has also reserved a new home at Broomhouse and will move into his property early next year!
