Taylor Wimpey helps Angela realise her dream move to a new home at Annsfield Farm, Hamilton.

When Angela Russell saw Taylor Wimpey’s Annsfield Farm development coming to life in Hamilton she thought there would be no way that she’d be able to realise her dream of moving to a new home. But using the Scottish Government’s Help to Buy scheme and tapping into Taylor Wimpey’s wealth of experience, the 37 year old nurse and her partner Chris moved into a three bedroom semi-detached Blair just a few months ago.

It’s been quite an incredible journey as Angela explains: “I was off work recovering from breast cancer and I was living with my parents because my rented apartment was up four flights of stairs and I just couldn’t manage them. My parent’s house is just a few streets away from Annsfield Farm and whilst I was out walking one day I’d spotted the sales information centre was open.

“I just popped in to see the types of houses that Taylor Wimpey were building and I genuinely thought there’s no way that I would be able to afford to move. Buying a new home was just not on my radar at all. And given my health situation at that point I thought I’d never get a mortgage anyway.

“But stepping through that door was the best thing I ever did. Nicola and Elaine – the sales executives who welcomed me – were absolutely fantastic. We chatted about my situation and they were incredibly compassionate and understanding. This was the first step in really impressive customer service by the whole team at Taylor Wimpey – their whole approach has been brilliant.

“Elaine and Nicola took the opportunity to explain more about the Help to Buy Scheme and how it works. They also put me in touch with the IFA for the development so I could really explore whether I’d be able to get a mortgage. He was really helpful and very knowledgeable and I realised very quickly that not only would I qualify for the Help to Buy Scheme, that I’d be paying less to own my own home than I was paying in rent and that using the scheme could help me achieve my dream of owning a new home.

“When we looked at the houses at the development that qualified for Help to Buy, I literally fell in love with the three bedroom semi-detached Blair. It’s a brand new style of house that Taylor Wimpey is building and I had a really good feeling when I looked at its plans. With everything progressing with the mortgage provider I reserved one off-plan.

“I believe that I’m the first one to have bought one and moved into one and our new house is perfect. It has a really practical layout that really works for both Chris and I. And my nephews absolutely love the bedroom that I’ve set aside for them to play their X-Box in.”

There are lots of benefits of buying a new home, and some that many people may not realise are included as Angela adds: “New houses are built with the future in mind and they’re really low maintenance because everything is new. My mum is disabled and needs to use a wheelchair at times but she can visit me without any trouble in her motorised scooter and pops up all the time because the doors are wide enough for her to get access and there are no steps into the house either so it’s just hassle-free.

“I was the first person to move into Annsfield Farm and it’s definitely the best move I’ve ever made. I love my house and owning it is a dream come true but I couldn’t have achieved it without the team from Taylor Wimpey West Scotland.”

Audrey Ross, Sales & Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland adds: “I’m delighted that our team at Annsfield Farm in Hamilton were able to play their role in helping Angela achieve her dream of moving to a new home.
