Part Exchange Makes Moving up the Property Ladder Easy

Date: Wednesday 25 June 2014

Anne Gordon (59), and her husband Tommy (61), have both worked for Chivas Brothers in Dumbarton for 25 years, and they have taken a step up the property ladder thanks to a helping hand from Taylor Wimpey’s part-exchange scheme at The Fairways.  Their move has seen them move from a three bedroom terrace home to a spacious four bedroom detached home, plus they were the first home owners to pick up the keys and move-in!

The couple hadn’t really been looking for a move, but they had jokingly discussed that any new home had to offer them a number of benefits as Anne explains:  “We really hadn’t planned to move, but we regularly take a walk around the local area, and we were really interested in the new homes that were being built as part of the Lomondgate development.

“Once we started to look we decided that if we were going to move then we’d like a new home that offered us a bigger garden, a garage and our own driveway.  And having always lived locally in Dumbarton and within minutes of our work at the distillery – we wanted to make sure that we’d still have no commute to work either.

“So we popped in to look at each of the developers at Lomondgate, and really fell in love with the layout and the position of the Fairbairn house here at The Fairways.  We even took a trip to visit Taylor Wimpey’s development in Airdrie to see the showhome of this house – and the same day we came back, we made our reservation.”

The couple used Taylor Wimpey’s helpful part-exchange scheme which helped them to secure a larger home and get on the move quickly as Anne continues:  “We used Taylor Wimpey’s part-exchange scheme and it was just so easy and stress-free that I can’t recommend it highly enough!

“The whole process was really simple and allowed us to just look forward to moving into our new home without the worry or stress of selling our old home.  Plus we have been able to take a move up to a bigger home that gives us almost more space than we need.  And we have our own driveway, garage and really importantly a lovely big garden because we spend lots of time pottering about in it.

“Plus I just feel this development is so well located – it feels really central for us.  We can be shopping at Lomond Shores within a ten minute drive or we can get into Glasgow in around 15-20 mins.

“It’s all worked out brilliantly and we’ve got lots of space for when our children visit – my son lives locally, and my daughter’s really excited to be getting married later this year and plans to leave from our new home.  - so we’re all looking forward to a bright future here!”

Buying from plan and being the first to move-in could feel daunting but this couple are new home veterans and this is their third new home purchase.  But everything has gone well as Tommy adds:  “We felt really comfortable buying off-plan once we’d taken the trip over to Airdrie to see the house we liked fully-built and showcased as a showhome.  We could easily imagine how this home would feel in Dumbarton and just felt very happy with our decision.

“We’re also in a unique position because we were also the first people to move into the development so it was fairly quiet for a few weeks before anyone else moved in.  But we’re really enjoying seeing and hearing the development coming to life now.

“The whole layout and style of this development appealed to us – the roads are nice and wide and everything feels really spacious.  It’s really tranquil to be so close to Dumbarton Golf Course, but it’s equally lovely to hear the children playing outside after school as more families have now moved in.  It’s a really lovely place to call our home.”

The couple only ever considered a new build home as Anne continues:  “This is our third new-build home – I just love the fact that you can walk in and it’s a blank canvas to do whatever you want to!  And everything is just so lovely and clean – it beats clearing out other peoples’ rubbish!

“We’re really impressed with the finish and quality of our home and we’ve had a fantastic service from Taylor Wimpey throughout our whole buying process.  The site manager John has been really efficient if we’ve called him with any snagging issues, and Susan in the sales office has been so helpful too – answering all our questions and keeping us on the right track throughout the whole move.”
