A young professional couple made the move from renting to home ownership by using Help to Buy to secure their dream apartment at our Beaumont Gardens development in St Albans.
Aidan and Rochelle Hawes, both 30, had been living in a privately-rented apartment in Clapham, South London, for three years, but wanted to find something they could call their own. They were open to new builds and character properties, and found the perfect mix of both at Beaumont Gardens, which comprises 28 one and two-bedroom apartments in a refurbished Grade II-listed former tailors and coat factory.
Aidan said: “We’ve always wanted something a bit different as a home. We saw the plans for Beaumont Gardens when we first came to St Albans to look around the area. We loved the look of the high ceilings and exposed original features, so we went in and later visited the site. We knew that this was what we were looking for and had to take our interest further.”
Rochelle added: “We loved the development as soon as we visited the showhome. It was in the early stages but as the existing shell of the factory remained, we could really visualise what the possibilities were. We took away a brochure and put in an offer less than a week later.”
From the start, Aidan and Rochelle found the whole process of buying their new home easy and straight-forward. The couple used the Government-backed Help to Buy Scheme to secure their dream home which meant that they only needed to pay 5% deposit for their new apartment.
Rochelle said: “The process was very easy. We were kept up to date and when things got close to Christmas and the end of our expected completion the Sales Team went out of their way to push things through as soon as possible for us.”
Aidan added: “We wanted to go with a well-known company with a strong reputation. We have friends who had purchased Taylor Wimpey properties in the past, and after reading some good reviews online they seemed like the right fit for us.”
