New-build home offers a stress-free move up the property ladder for Thomas
Thomas, a project manager within the public sector has always lived in Cumbernauld, and his previous property was a makeover project that took around 5 years. When it was time to move he was keen to enjoy the benefits of buying new – no DIY or maintenance to worry about as he explains: “After five years of hard work and getting the house in Cumbernauld to the way I wanted it, looking at the market earlier this year I knew that in order to maximise the investment that I’d made that it was time to sell. It was either that or I would have had to start again with redecorating, and I just really didn’t want the hassle. I wanted a blank canvas where everything had been done for me and I just had to add my furniture!
“Buying a new Baxter three bedroom home at Stoneyetts View was the perfect solution and it came about in quite an unusual way. I’ve always been a fan of Taylor Wimpey homes – I’ve been around quite a few of their show homes for inspiration. I really like the look of their houses and they have great kerb appeal. For me the space, storage and general size of the rooms feels bigger with a Taylor Wimpey home so the price versus space really works for me.
“A few years ago, I popped into Taylor Wimpey’s development in Bargeddie, but felt that it was too far from Cumbernauld where all my friends and family are. So as much as I loved the homes there, I decided not to progress things. Fast forward a couple of years and when the Stoneyetts View development was due to launch I was contacted by Nicola, the sales executive whom I’d met at Bargeddie. I was still on Taylor Wimpey’s mailing list for three bedroom homes and from there it just felt like fate to be honest.
“Nicola and I talked about another three bedroom style that Taylor Wimpey offers but I realised for my budget that buying a Baxter would give me all the space I needed including a spare room, and I would be able to make the third bedroom into a home office. I’m very happy with my new home and it really works for me. I’m working from home some of the times so having space for a home office has worked out perfectly too. After chatting to Nicola at great length, I paid my deposit and along with my French bulldog Vinny, I was one of the first people to move into Stoneyetts View.”
Using Taylor Wimpey’s Easymover scheme was a helpful move for Thomas. “Nicola made things so easy and stress-free for me, he explains. “With a property to sell she clearly detailed how Taylor Wimpey’s Easymover scheme could work for me and its benefits. I decided this would be ideal for me and in the end, it made the whole buying process straightforward. I saved money on estate agents fees, and I received a free Home Report for my property for sale. I also had the choice of two estate agents that Taylor Wimpey sent to value my property. I was able to pick the agent that I was most happy to work with. It was seamless, and Nicola couldn’t have done more to take care of things for me.
“I also needed some help when it came to picking my optional extras for the house – that can feel overwhelming - but Nicola booked me for a visit to the sales office and she took care of everything. We chatted through my budget and what would work well, and she made it an enjoyable experience.”
Thomas feels as though he has the best of all worlds with this move to Moodiesburn as he adds: “Most of my friends and family live in Cumbernauld but they are literally just a few minutes’ drive away if I want to visit or they want to pop over. There are great local amenities here – a shop, takeaway and a pub - literally on our doorstep and you can always go to Cumbernauld if you need too.
“I also have a great corner plot within the development that overlooks Moodiesburn Bowling Club and there’s plenty of fields on the doorstep for Vinny’s walks! When the development is a bit more established there will also be a path that will take me up to the woodlands at the top of the hill which I know Vinny will enjoy exploring!”
Going the extra mile is naturally what the team at Taylor Wimpey aims to do for its customers and that’s certainly the case for Thomas: “Because I work from home some of the time, having WIFI set up was really important to me, he adds. “Through no fault of Taylor Wimpey there was an issue with providing broadband to the site. Knowing how important this service is for me and my ability to work, Nicola got in touch and arranged for me to be reimbursed for a mobile dongle to ensure that I was able to continue working from home until the issue was resolved.
“I’d say the whole team has really done everything they could to help me settle in and the site team have been brilliant too. In fact, not having bought a new house before and not really knowing what I was looking for, I had a professional snagging company come to have a look at my house. They said it was a great house and they said that generally Taylor Wimpey is consistently in the top three developers in Scotland for quality, which is just added peace of mind really.”
Move-in day was smooth and stress-free for Thomas as he explains: “I’ve really enjoyed my buying experience with Taylor Wimpey and my move-in day was also really lovely too. After my various visits to the development, which included the chance to meet the site manager and a full home demonstration and a wait of around five/six months while my new home was built, it was just such a relief to move-in and I was so pleased that everything went really smoothly. The whole process was so relaxing but exciting at the same time and Nicola really took the time to make sure that everything was as I expected.
“Even though I was on my own as the only homeowner in this part of the development for a few weeks, bizarrely I now have several friends who have moved from Cumbernauld and my neighbours are very friendly too and it’s great to be part of this new and growing community.
“I can’t praise Taylor Wimpey highly enough and at the moment I’m trying to encourage my brother to buy a new home too because he’s had absolutely no luck in buying in the second-hand market.
“My advice to anyone considering buying a new-build home is go for it. The process for me has been so smooth and it’s given me a stylish blank canvas that I’m really enjoying furnishing – which is the best bit really.”
