We inspire creativity with funded author visit to Middleton school this World Book Day

This World Book Day, we treated Year 2 pupils at Bowlee Park Community School in Middleton to a funded author visit from Gemma Merlen, the author behind the Polly Paint Pony series.

Supporting a love for reading

Now in its 27th year, World Book Day takes place on Thursday 7th March, and is a celebration of reading and aims to encourage children and young adults to come together to explore the pleasure of books.

Gemma engaged with the pupils at Bowlee Park Community School with a specially tailored, creative session on being an author and the inspiration behind her books. This was followed by a Q&A session. To further boost the school’s reading resources, we also donated £200 towards Bowlee Park Community School’s library.

Inspiring creativity

Helen Simpson, Year 2 Group Leader at Bowlee Park Community School, said: “We really enjoyed listening to Gemma who read one of her brand new books after she spoke to all the children about why she started writing, how she writes her books and where she gets her inspiration from. Some of the children were even lucky enough to meet Gemma one-to-one and have their books signed by her with a personal message.

“Bowlee Park Community School is very lucky to have these opportunities and we also want to thank Taylor Wimpey for donating £200 to the schools Literacy fund too.”
