Land off Marsh Road, Burnham-on-Crouch

Marsh Road - Burnham-on-Crouch - Essex - CM0 8PY

Taylor Wimpey is currently preparing a proposal for a new residential development on land off Marsh Road, Burnham-on-Crouch.

  • Overview

    Land off Marsh Road, Burnham-on-Crouch

We are preparing a full detailed planning application for a new residential development on land off Marsh Road, Burnham-on-Crouch. The site has been allocated for housing development in the Maldon Local Plan.

Our proposal includes a mix of new homes, of which a proportion will be affordable housing - as required by planning policy - as well as public open space.

The site has a number of constraints which we need to take into account when preparing our proposal. This includes active badger setts and a public right of way (PROW).

    Badger setts

We are working closely with Natural England to preserve and protect the badgers living on the site. Ecologists have carried out detailed surveys and have closely monitored the site to establish the extent of the badgers’ habitat. We have confirmed that a main sett and several outlier/annexe setts are present along the site’s field edges to the north.

Under our proposal all existing setts will be retained and work will be planned in order to minimise disruption to the badgers. In order to ensure all work is carried out appropriately we will seek a licence from Natural England which will give an additional level of oversight during the construction phase. This licence will also help ensure that badgers and new residents can live happily alongside one another.

Once new residents move in we will give out leaflets highlighting the extent of the badger habitat on their doorsteps and explaining how living alongside badgers and other wildlife can be of great interest and enjoyment.

    Public right of way (PROW)

There is a PROW running through the site which will need to be temporarily diverted during the construction phase. We will work with the local authorities prior to any changes being made and this will be subject to public consultation. Our proposal will incorporate the PROW and it will be returned to its original route once construction is complete.

It is important that we listen to the views of the local community while preparing our proposal. We therefore held a public exhibition at Ormiston Academy, Southminster Road, Burnham-on-Crouch, CM0 8DD, between 5pm and 7.30pm on Tuesday 14th May 2019. You can download the boards that were displayed at the exhibition at the below link.

Feedback given during the exhibition and online via this website will help shape the final scheme before we submit our full detailed planning application to Maldon District Council.

There will also be a further opportunity to comment once the application has been formally submitted.
