    Taylor Wimpey have now completed the purchase of the former Robertson’s Jam Factory, off Manchester Road, Droylsden. 

    In August 2019, Tameside MBC granted outline planning permission for the residential development of the site for a maximum of 350 homes. This established the principle of the residential development of the site.

    Taylor Wimpey have received planning permission for 167 new homes. This is part of a wider application for 338 new homes, creating a new sustainable community. The ‘reserved matters’ application provided details of things like the siting and appearance of the proposed dwellings.     About the site

    The site is located off Manchester Road, to the south east of Droylsden town centre. It was formerly occupied by Robertson’s Jam and then Patak’s, but has been unoccupied since 2006.

    Manchester city centre is just 4 miles to the west of the site.

    What's Proposed

    This planning approval redevelops a currently unused, brownfield site to create a range of new homes, with associated public open space.

    We will deliver a mix of homes to appeal to a diverse range of residents. We plan to deliver:

    • 3 and 4 bedroom detached homes
    • 3 bedroom semi-detached homes
    • 2 bedroom apartments.
    • 5% affordable housing in accordance with the planning obligations agreed at outline stage.

    By providing a range of different homes and new public space for residents we hope to build a thriving, sustainable community which caters to various stages of life.

    The main vehicular site access is proposed off Manchester Road to the southern boundary, with a secondary vehicle access off Ashton Hill Lane to the western boundary and a emergency vehicle / pedestrian access proposed to the north-west off Williamson Lane.

    Improving highways infrastructure

    We will invest significantly in transport infrastructure. This will involve improving both the capacity and safety of local roads for the benefit of existing and future residents. This will include upgraded highways, new crossings and improved junctions.

    Public open space and revitalising Ashton Canal

    Our proposals will deliver new high-quality public space at the centre of the development and regenerate the Ashton Canalside for the benefit of the local community. This will provide a positive contribution to the local environment and provide attractive new amenity space for the use of local people.
