Harbour Edge Phase 2, Portishead

Taylor Wimpey has submitted a planning application for a residential development of 70 new homes on vacant land at the former A.P. Burt site off Harbour Road, Portishead.

  • Land off Harbour Road, Portishead

This web page gives you the chance to find out more about our proposals for a new residential development at the former A.P. Burt factory site off Harbour Road in Portishead

The development will allow for 70 new homes to be built on the site, including affordable homes for local people in housing need, as well as public open space.

Our development plans have been prepared following a public exhibition held in March 2016, which enabled the local community to view and comment on our emerging proposals and influence the final scheme. You can view the information boards which were on display at this event by clicking here.

Our planning application was submitted to North Somerset Council in June 2016 and can be viewed by visiting the Council's online planning pages (search application number 16/P/1608/F).

  • About the site

The proposed site, which borders our existing Harbour Edge development, has been marketed for commercial use for more than a year, but has received no suitable uptake from potential users.

We are therefore pursuing this residential application as an alternative solution to be considered alongside the current proposal for commercial use.

The site covers an area of approximately 1.6 hectares (3.9 acres) and is located to the north of Harbour Road and the east of Newfoundland Way.

Taylor Wimpey’s existing Harbour Edge development lies to the north, while the town’s marina is nearby to the north west.

  • What's proposed

Our development is designed to work within the constraints and opportunities of the site and is a scheme that respects the area’s surroundings.

Our proposals include the following key elements:

    • 70 high-quality new homes

    • A mix of property types and sizes to suit people in a range of circumstances

    • One and two-bedroom flats, and two, three and four-bedroom houses

    • A provision of affordable housing for local people in housing need

    • An area of public open space

    • An architectural approach that is aesthetically pleasing and compliments the adjacent Harbour Edge development.

  • Community benefits

We believe our proposals will carry wider benefits to the community of Portishead beyond the provision of new homes. These benefits include a number of significant financial contributions that will be made towards the local community as part of our proposed development, in agreement with the relevant local authorities. Details of these contributions will be released once established with the council.
