  • About the site

    About The Site

    Taylor Wimpey North East is proposing to develop an area of land running adjacent to Chester Road, Penshaw. The site is situated next to Herrington Country Park, providing an opportunity to integrate new housing with existing leisure. The site was recently allocated in the Sunderland CSDP (January 2020), subsequently we are hoping to submit a planning application within the near future.  Initial community consultation has taken place and further consultation is proposed over the next few months. As part of the ongoing design and planning process a request for a formal scoping opinion for Environmental Impact Assessment has been submitted to Sunderland City Council. This submission sets out the proposed level and scope of assessment being undertake to accompany a future planning application. We are also starting to undertake more detailed assessments on site including ecology, archaeology and intrusive site investigations to look at ground conditions. Over the months of May and June 2020 there will be plant and equipment on site working to strict Health and Safety procedures and guidance to address and work safely in accordance with all Covid19 restrictions.     Our Development Proposal

    The site is proposed for the development of residential dwelling housing with associated gardens, landscaping, parking and roadways. The site is currently in the very early stages, with the design proposals still underway. The development will deliver 15% affordable housing to the community.

    Community Consultation Event

    Thank you to all who provided feedback and expressed an interest in our proposed development following the first round of consultation. We are now working on a second consultation, to be held in August 2020. Due to the on-going COVID-19 concerns, we are working through logistics of how we can carry this out safely. Our website will be updated shortly with further information.

    29.01.2020 - The Sunderland Core Strategy and Development Plan (CSDP) was adopted at a full Council meeting, which included the site as an allocation.

    30.03.2020  - A scoping report has been submitted to Sunderland City Council. This report is recommended as part of the planning process to agree the scope of all assessments required to be reported in and Environmental Statement that will accompany a future planning application.

    July 2020 -  We are currently working towards a second consultation event and will update the website accordingly.

    August 2020 -  We are currently carrying out ground investigation works including site investigation and archaeology works. Therefore you are likely to see a site presence over the next three weeks.

    08.09.2020 - Leaflets are being sent out over the next week to neighbouring areas of the proposed site with details of a digital consultation being held on the 18th and 19th September
