    We are currently preparing proposals for a high quality development of approximately 250 family homes on land to the west of Alwyn Road, Rugby.

    As a first phase of this important scheme to the town, we want to work with the local community through consultation over the detail and design of the proposals, which started in June 2017 and will continue right through to when the application is determined in 2018.

  • About the site

    Local plan

    The function of the local plan document is to strategically plan where growth should go in the Borough over the coming years (2011-2031) to meet housing and employment needs for the area in response to the economic, social and environmental issues facing the area.  The publication draft contains the following development targets for the plan period;

    • 12,400 dwellings
    • 110ha employment land
    • 732m² convenience retail
    • 7,850m² comparison retail

    The housing target of 12,400 homes is formed of the housing need of Rugby Borough (9,600) and unmet need originating from Coventry City (2,800).

    Community consultation

    We want to work with the local community to ensure we get the right proposals for the area, to deliver the new homes and infrastructure improvements the area needs.

    We held our public exhibition at Old Laurentians Rugby Football Club on Tuesday 4th July 2017 between 3pm and 7pm; this was to consider the first stage of the development.

    Visitors were able to view our emerging proposals, speak to technical experts from our project team, ask questions and provide us with their feedback on the scheme. To view the exhibition boards displayed at the event please click here.

    If you would like to comment on our proposals, click the 'Have your say' button at the top of this page. The first deadline for submitting feedback was Tuesday 8thAugust 2017 to allow our designers time to consider the feedback and review the designs once again; however we will continue to consider any further comments after this time, towards the submission of the application in Autumn 2017.  Should a deadline need to be placed upon comments to allow us to finalise documents prior to submission, this deadline will be specified here.

    We are looking to do a further consultation event or community update in the Autumn asking for further input and responding to any previous questions raised. 

    Consultation is an on-going process, and is not about a one day event, but rather various engagements and interactions over a much longer period to get the right development proposals.  All comments received as part of the consultation process will be collated and responses to these provided within our statement of community involvement which will form an intrinsic part of our planning application.

    June 2017 – Rugby Borough Council approve the Local Plan for Submission for Examination, including the proposed allocation at South West Rugby.
