Taylor Wimpey have submitted an outline application for 59 new homes on land off Longcot Road.

  • Overview

    A public consultation for the proposed development of 59 new homes off Longcot Road, Shrivenham was held in the summer of 2013.The event gave local people the opportunity to find out more about the proposed development, and provide their views. 

    Following the public consultation, a planning application was submitted in summer 2013 and a response is expected by the end of summer 2014. The application is currently being considered by Vale of White Horse District Council and once determined it will be followed up with a reserved matters (detailed) application.


  • About the site

    The site has an approximate area of 3.5 hectares and comprises of a single agricultural field on the southeast edge of Shrivenham. The site is bound to the north east by Longcot Road and to the north west by the rear garden fences of the residential properties on the south side of Vicarage Lane. To the west and south of the site are further agricultural fields, with a public footpath running across the entire southern boundary of the site. 

    The land is generally level although it slopes slightly up towards the northwest corner of the site. Access to the site would be obtained from Longcot Road to the east. It is well positioned in the context of Shrivenham, being located only 300 meters from the east end of the High Street. Shrivenham is well served by local facilities with numerous pubs, restaurants and local shops.

  • What is proposed

    Taylor Wimpey has developed an outlined masterplan for the proposed development off Longcot Road. This has been shaped through public consultation to inform the outline planning application for the development. 

    The scheme has been designed to work with the constraints and opportunities of the site to create a development with a distinctive sense of place which respects the heritage of the local area, as well as the setting and amenity of neighbouring properties.

    Key elements of the proposed development are as follows: 
    • 59 new homes, providing a mixture of terraced, link-detached and detached homes. 
    • Create a development that respects and reflects the character and appearance of Shrivenham.
    • Provide affordable housing which will be available to local residents. 
    • Create a mixed community providing a variety of house sizes, but primarily family housing.
