Weycock Cross, Barry

Port Road West - Weycock Cross - Barry - South Glamorgan

Taylor Wimpey has submitted a planning application for a new residential development of up to 200 homes on land to the south of Port Road West at Weycock Cross, Barry.

  • Overview

We have an option to purchase the Weycock Cross site in Barry from the existing landowners, subject to planning permission being granted for the proposed residential development.

A public consultation for the proposed development of 200 new homes was held in May 2013 at Highlight Park Community Centre, Barry, and an outline planning application submitted to the Vale of Glamorgan Council in July 2013.

Taylor Wimpey has now withdrawn the planning application.

  • About the site

    About the site

The proposed development site covers an area of 8.14 hectares and is currently in agricultural use.

It is located on the western fringes of the Barry settlement area, between Pontypridd Road and Cwm-Ciddy Lane, and benefits from good connections to Barry town centre.

The site is bordered by existing housing (off Pontypridd Road) at its eastern boundary, while further housing (Nant Talwg Way) lies to the south. To the south-west, land rises to a woodland belt, and agricultural fields are located to the west. Port Road runs along the northern boundary of the site, and at the north-west corner sits a group of buildings including Ty-Newydd Farm and the Cwm Ciddy pub and hotel.

Trees, hedges and shrubs line the boundary of the site, with a watercourse running along the southern hedgerow. A mature hedgerow runs north to south across the site which will be retained where appropriate.

The proposed development site was previously identified in the Vale of Glamorgan Local Development Deposit Plan in 2012 as being a suitable location to accommodate up to 220 new homes.
