Building more than homes

We do much more than build homes – we add social, economic and environmental value to the wider communities in which we operate as well as to the sustainability of the area.

Placemaking is at the heart of what we do – developing well-designed communities that meet the needs of residents and have a strong sense of identity and character.

Our approach to placemaking starts with managing the project from the outset- setting clear project objectives with the right team and structure. Each site is carefully assessed to understand its context, technical design constraints and opportunities.

Throughout the design process we create character and a strong design concept that responds to the site context. We rigorously follow the scheme design through with detailed design, procurement and delivery on site.

Ensuring sustainability

  • Taylor Wimpey aims to identify the most sustainable locations in conjunction with local and national planning policy from the outset.
  • This enables deliverability on the sites where we choose to enter into a land agreement.
  • We work with a variety of professionals from the very beginning, including Transport consultants, Ecologists, Flood and Drainage consultants, Landscape, Visual and Noise consultants, and Master-planners, which helps us to identify the constraints and opportunities of the site.

Commitment to communities

  • We engage with communities throughout the planning process.
  • Our planning agreement contributions help to provide facilities that meet the needs of local communities, for example new schools, infrastructure projects, or community centres.
  • Our schemes have green open space provisions to give residents formal and informal recreation spaces.

Economic impact

  • Taylor Wimpey, including its supply chain, is a major contributor to both national and local economies.
  • In 2017, we directly employed, on average, 4,999 people across the UK (2016: 4,697) and provided opportunities for a further 13,422 operatives on our sites.
  • We are proud to be sponsoring Buckinghamshire University Technical College (Bucks UTC), which opened its doors in September 2013.
