To celebrate World Book Day 2025, we arranged a magical morning of storytelling for pupils at Colney Heath School from children’s author Lou Treleaven.
Celebrated annually on 6th March in over 100 countries, World Book Day encourages children to discover the joy of reading and fosters a lifelong love of books and literature.
Visiting the primary school, Lou Treleaven hosted an interactive session for a very excited group of nursery and reception pupils. The children got the chance to engage in various fun activities, including story reading with props and puppets, drawing their favourite toy and learning new songs.
We also wanted to support the school with resourcing and chose to donate a further £250 to help expand the school’s library collection.
Anne Clark, Headteacher at Colney Heath School, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Lou Treleaven to our school for World Book Day. The children were captivated by her storytelling, and it was wonderful to see their enthusiasm for the tasks. We are incredibly grateful to Taylor Wimpey South Midlands for organising the visit, as well as for their generous monetary donation, which has been put to good use in purchasing brand new books for our library. We just know this will ensure our pupils have access to wonderful books for many years to come”
Colney Heath FC win our Community Chest
Colney Heath Football Club has been awarded £1,000 after being announced as the winners of the our Community Chest competition.Since launching the competition in July, we have been on a mission to support a good cause or group that is local to the development in Colney Heath.
Residents from in and around Colney Heath were invited to nominate local, worthy recipients for the prize and, after considering all of the entries, we proudly selected Colney Heath Football Club as our winner.
The club is a thriving community hub in the heart of the village, offering a welcoming space for everyone. This grassroots organisation has grown by actively engaging with the community, providing inclusive programs such as a newly established Hardship Fund to ensure access to sports for all.
The club also partners with the St Albans Inclusion Project, hosting monthly disability discos and weekly football training, creating a safe social space for those who wish to participate or simply connect with others.
Richard Smith, Club Chair at Colney Heath Football Club, said: “We were delighted to win the Community Chest prize, and would like to thank everyone who so kindly nominated the club for this award. We do take our community responsibilities very seriously being a thriving football club in a small village, and as such we offer opportunities for participation in other social activities such as darts, cribbage, bingo and quiz nights. The prize money will go towards the cost of resources and future projects that will further benefit our local community by encouraging similar social events in a friendly and welcoming environment.”
Fiona Lloyd, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey South Midlands, said: “We were delighted to support a local community sports club that makes a real difference to people in the area. We’d like to thank everyone who took part in the voting process and helped us choose such a worthy recipient.”
Local investment
A home is more than just a house, it’s also about the community that surrounds it. And that’s why we invest in building communities that support local businesses, improve facilities in the area and help bring people together.
Over the next few years, we'll be contributing over £2.1 million covering...

Meet Chris, our Sales Executive here at Colney Manor.Chris is one of our most experienced members of the sales team, having worked for Taylor Wimpey for the past 9 years.
“I’ve been involved here at Colney Heath right from the start which has been great because I’ve familiarised myself with the area and know the development and our range of homes well.
I thoroughly enjoy my role as property has always been something that has interested me and it’s such a great feeling when you find someone their dream home; especially as it’s such an important life purchase.”
When thinking about what the development has to offer, Chris says:
“The specification we have here is a real selling point for customers, with PV panels and car chargers for electric cars provided as standard. It’s also a very desirable area given the quiet village lane location, yet still being so close to popular St Albans.”
If you have questions about the process of buying a new build home or if you’re unsure of what you can afford, don’t be shy, as Chris has probably been asked it before! He’s happy to help.
Chris said: “I look forward to helping more customers with their new home journey and seeing this stunning development grow. It’s sure to be a lovely one.”

Self built or custom built plots
Within the 100 new homes at Colney Manor, we are offering the unique opportunity to purchase a self-build or custom-build plot. There are 10 consented plots of this offering for sale; prices available on application.
What is self-build?
Self-build is housing built by individuals or groups for their own use, either by building the home on their own or by working with builders. Self-build projects are defined as those where someone directly organises the design and construction of their own home. This covers a wide range of projects, including a traditional DIY self-build home to projects where the self builder employs someone to build their home for them. Community-led projects can also be defined as self-build. Once planning approval has been granted, construction can commence. You can choose to undertake the construction yourselves or appoint an external builder to do so on your behalf.
What is custom-build?
Custom-build is housing built by the developer, however the customer can choose more of the core options on the house which wouldn't usually be possible on the majority of the development. These options include windows, doors, dormers, minor layout changes, brick colour and roof tile colour. These options then must receive approval before we as the developer build the home to your requirements.
