Couple make the move out of the city for more space in East Lothian

A desire for more space to grow and make the move out of Edinburgh signalled the time for David and Hannah to embark on their latest property adventure.

Getting more for their money at Ravensheugh

The couple always had a plan to take a step up the property ladder after Hannah finished her university studies. The couple lived for five years in a two-bedroom flat in Edinburgh and during the pandemic their desire to move out of the city and get more for their money took on a whole new importance. Hannah explains: "We’ve always had a plan to move out of Edinburgh when the time felt right. I think living through Covid gave us all a different perspective and our move to Wallyford comes at a time when we’re looking to the next stage in our life together and perhaps growing our family."

Finding their perfect Taylor Wimpey home

Discovering the Hume was a perfect fit was almost too good to be true as David adds: “We couldn’t quite believe it was so perfect and it ticked all of our boxes. During our visit to the show home we literally thought ‘this is perfect, why would we say no’.

“We chatted to the sales executive Lauren and discovered there was a Hume available; it was close to the new primary school and the new secondary school which is being built just down the road.

"We also discovered that we could use Taylor Wimpey’s Easymover scheme and that just helped us so much. In fact, without it I’m not sure if we would have pulled it off. Taylor Wimpey’s Easymover expert, Sandra, was really friendly and helpful and when we were juggling life and stress - she was very reassuring and understanding. In fact, everything went brilliantly to plan. They helped us to sell our flat in Edinburgh and it just made the whole process really simple and stress-free.

”As well as the opportunity to personalise your new home, save on maintenance and your energy costs, new build homes offer many other benefits as David explains: “Buying a new build gave us real certainty of what we could achieve with our budget. Knowing how frantic the Edinburgh property market is, we just didn’t want to get into a bidding war for a house and then fail. With new build you know exactly what you need to pay and that makes everything so much easier to manage.

“When we set out to buy a new home, I wanted it to be a home that we would never need to move from; plus, it had to have a permanent guest room for Hannah’s family to be able to visit from down south - futureproofing us and it had to be able to accommodate both of us working from home and have outside space. Quite a tall order but new build was realistically the only way we could achieve everything we wanted, and incredibly this house from Taylor Wimpey in Wallyford does all of that.”

Finding your ideal home with the perfect layout, in what is fast becoming a very popular location means the couple feel they’ve made the right move as Hannah adds:  “Right now and looking ahead, Ravensheugh is just perfect for us. When it’s time for family, we will be able to walk across the road to the primary school, plus the new secondary school that is being built just down the road will be finished so that will be handy too.  In fact, we will have no need for a car in the future to do the school run which is just fantastic.

More space

“We loved the layout of the Hume best because we feel that it gives us the best balance of working and entertainment/socialising space downstairs. Upstairs there’s just lots of space, in fact the first few days living here we joked that we might lose each other after living in our little flat.

“This development is growing all the time, and we’re delighted that we have moved into a lovely street where everyone is really friendly. We feel that we are part of something new and exciting. And our friends and family love it too - we’ve always got visitors!”

Great team helping you make your move

Taylor Wimpey is an award-winning, five star builder and as David explains the team at Ravensheugh has ensured the couple have had a stress-free move: “People worry about snagging if they buy a new home, and as a man-made product you would expect some. I have to say that our house has been built to a very high standard; the site team has been exceptional, really approachable. And Jamie, our assistant site manager, is just one of the best people I’ve dealt with. Along with Michael in customer services, they have gone above and beyond for us to complement the service we had from Lauren and Sandra in the sales team.

“We’ve had a couple of very minor snags whereby the site team has made it their priority to fix and they have done so really quickly."
