Trend: Act Natural

Wicker, rattan, linen, clay and felt – natural materials should head to the top of your interiors radar right now for a laid-back home that’s still statement making.

Linen

It’s true, linen bedding is a byword for classic style – it will never date. There’s something about crumpled linen sheets and covers which instil a tranquil, relaxed charm in seconds.

Linen’s natural properties will also keep you cool and the fabric doesn’t need to be too pristine (and that means less ironing). Try a new set of linen covers for a chair that’s seen better days or hang a simple panel of linen at the window for an effortless, chateau-chic vibe.

Clay

Our love-affair with natural materials feeds into so many trends: Nordic and Global Nomad for starters. Clay is key. Hand thrown earthenware pots are a foolproof way to pull off artisanal, homespun cool, without trying too hard. Plump for a single statement vessel in a rich, jewel shade or group clusters of smaller clay vases for a point of interest.

Mix and match earthy neutrals (natural pigments like ochre and terracotta work well) and interesting shapes from different eras.

Wool

The appeal of natural wool never fades. Chunky wool blankets are perfect for cooler evenings and wool-filled duvets and pillows are a natural swap to synthetic fibres. Fuzzy, felted wool will never lose its interiors savvy either, be it in natural grey shades or pigmented, in-your-face brights (did we mention, neon is also hot this season?).

Rattan

Rattan is having a revival and we can’t get enough of it. With a hint of Seventies retro, rattan wood pieces have a cool vibe.

It’s easy to get wicker and rattan mixed up. Rattan is a material used to make the furniture. Wicker is the technique that involves weaving natural materials such as bamboo and willow. Pick rattan light shades in natural hues or dramatic inky black. Otherwise, go bolder and commit to the trend with a pretty rattan headboard and foldaway screen. We're in love...
