Millennial Pink

Pink hues are taking up residence in our homes – what are they and are they set to stay?

Pink hues - what are they and are they set to stay?

You’ve probably come across the label ‘Millennial Pink’. But what is it? Well, it’s not officially a single, set colour. This zeitgeist pink is more a spectrum of pale pinks.

Try barely-there ballet slipper, salmon, petal, Turkish delight and rose for starters. It’s been described as a pink with the blue taken out of it or a blush with a beige tint.

Try Fired Earth’s ‘Orchard Pink’, Farrow & Ball’s ‘Calamine’ and Crown’s ‘Pashmina’ for the perfect grown-up pink.

Too saccharine?

Think pink is too pretty? Think again. Millennial Pink is pink with power, a pink that’s oozing with confident, post-prettiness for every style of house – be it a Victorian terrace, a 1960s-retro estate or a modern-day new-build.

Mix up with raw woods and a flash of burnished gold for a look that’s fresh, sophisticated and spot-on for today’s 21st century Scandi vibe.

Don’t want a full-blown pink fest in the bathroom or kitchen? Then go for beautiful blush accessories as a subtle nod to the trend.

Just in the bedroom?

Definitely not. Pink has broken free from the confines of the little girl’s bedroom, the nursery and the fussy boudoir. This new millennial shade is a game-changing neutral taking over from our longstanding love affair with grey and off-white backdrops.

It’s a quiet, restful shade that looks comforting in the kitchen, blissed-out in the bathroom and oh so serene in the hallway.

Play with other colours

The beauty of today’s penchant for pink is that it works so well with so many other shades.

Try black, white and grey for monochrome sophistication with a twist. Or pair with a palette of ice-cream hues like primrose, mint green and baby blue for 21st century pastels we’ll love for years.

‘Heart Wood’ is such a versatile shade that it’s key to Dulux’s four main colour palettes for the season where browns, blues, greys and browns all feature.
