Hear from our customers
Moving from our old house in Giffnock to a new four bedroom Maxwell in Duncarnock, Barrhead, has been a transformative experience for Susan and Graeme, as they explain more.
“As we got older, we realised that maintaining our older home would become more challenging, and it was difficult to heat efficiently. This prompted us to consider buying a new house. “We still needed the same number of bedrooms and wanted a kitchen that could accommodate our cooking, eating, and entertaining lifestyle. And after visiting friends who had recently moved into a new home, that changed our perspective on modern houses.
“After missing out on two older properties due to the competitive offers over system, we found the certainty of buying off-plan very appealing. Knowing the exact cost of our new home relieved the strain we felt when trying to buy in the second-hand market.
“Duncarnock’s peaceful setting in lovely countryside, close to the local Balgray Reservoir and good amenities, was a significant draw for us. We also appreciated that the development is not close to any major motorways.
“Despite downsizing in our sixties and running a local cleaning business, buying a new home didn't feel daunting to us. But we are details people, and Suzanne, our sales executive, was incredibly helpful in answering our many questions and providing details that reassured us we could personalise our house after picking up the keys. Adding a fireplace in the lounge and implementing storage solutions to maximize space has allowed us to create home office spaces without using any bedrooms. With some work to the garden, we've also created privacy, which is important to us. Without these reassurances, we wouldn't have proceeded with the purchase.
“The whole team at Duncarnock, including Lynsey, Suzanne, and Henry, has been brilliant, continuing to look after us and showing genuine care and excitement when we moved in. Taylor Wimpey’s staff are generally most helpful. This was evident when we visited several developments with the Maxwell show home to gather interior design ideas and measure spaces to determine what could move with us from our old life.
“A special mention goes to Jacqui at one of the Hamilton developments. She was so helpful, allowing me to measure every part of her Maxwell show home multiple times due to my eye problems. This gave me comfort when making decisions about which furniture to keep and where we would need something new.
“Getting the keys was an exciting moment, and we were comforted to find our new home exactly as expected and spotlessly clean. And it felt like home very quickly. “Since moving in, we have had absolutely no issues, and an independent inspection from a professional snagging company gave our new home a great report with just two very minor paint touch-ups required, so that’s incredibly reassuring, too.
“Our advice to other buyers considering downsizing is not to rule out a new home. You can retain much of what you had before; you just need to think creatively about using the space. Buying early off-plan is also beneficial.
“Additionally, consider how you can add instant privacy, like trees in your garden, if that's something you're used to, and think about how you want to use each room. Hopefully, developers like Taylor Wimpey will make even better use of IT to show older buyers these options in the future.”
In the community
As part of our support for East Renfrewshire’s Developing the Young Workforce programme, and our commitment to the Scottish Government’s Young Persons’ Guarantee Scheme, we hosted a site visit at our Duncarnock development in Barrhead for 14 students aged 15/16 from Barrhead High School and neighbouring St Luke’s High School to get an insight into the housebuilding industry.
Our team also took the opportunity to highlight the choice of careers and various routes that are available for young people to get involved in this exciting industry sector. During their visit to the site in Barrhead the students had the opportunity to see the various stages of construction of a new home, visit the sales information centre and showhomes, as well as the chance to get valuable career advice from the team.
Local investment

INCLUDE ME 2 RECEIVES FURTHER DONATION
As part of its ongoing commitment to working in partnership with local communities, at the launch of its local Duncarnock development in Barrhead, leading UK housebuilder Taylor Wimpey West Scotland teamed up with the Include Me 2 Club to donate £25 for each new home sold and legally completed within the first phase of new homes at the development.
This month, the charity received £750, bringing the housebuilder’s total donations to £3,100 so far. This donation is part of a long-term commitment between Taylor Wimpey West Scotland and the charity, and the money will go directly to supporting the work it provides locally in Barrhead.
In further good news for the charity, Taylor Wimpey has extended its £25 donation project to the full 220 new homes at Duncarnock and confirmed that it will also include the 44 new homes now coming soon at its local Arthurlie Gate development in Barrhead as part of this project. In total, a grand sum of £6,600 will be paid to the Include Me 2 Club as work at both developments continues.
Include Me 2 Club is an award-winning volunteer-led Scottish charity that works with children, young people, and adults with additional support needs. Its ambition is to create a community where people, no matter their age or abilities, are treated equally and fairly and supported to achieve their goals and ambitions—to work, live, and take part in their communities as valued members.
“We’re also delighted to learn that we will benefit from further donations for phase 2 at the Duncarnock site and the new Arthurlie Gate development. The money we receive is put to work to help us deliver our range of projects to the local community in Barrhead. On behalf of everyone who uses our service in Barrhead, I would like to say a huge thank you.”
Audrey Ross, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, said: “We are delighted to be able to support the Include Me 2 Club in this meaningful way, and we are really pleased to be able to extend this project to phase 2 of our Duncarnock development, as well as Arthurlie Gate too.
“This form of ongoing donation supports a strong relationship with a worthy local charity that links the new community emerging at our local developments, and the existing community of Barrhead.
“Being able to work with local charities and organisations that surround our developments means a great deal to us, and it’s always lovely to know that we are helping to make a difference to the lives of people in our local communities.”
Taylor Wimpey West Scotland’s donation to the Include Me 2 Club is one of the many contributions the housebuilder is making to community facilities and infrastructure in the wider area.

Sustainability
Children at Hillview Primary School’s Eco Committee in Barrhead have been busy designing their own bird boxes as part of a sustainability challenge set by their local development in Barrhead to encourage more wildlife into private gardens. The children were invited to take part in a competition to paint their own bird box, and our local sustainability champion, Maya Calvert, chose her favourite three designs before the children all took their bird boxes home to install in their own gardens.
