“We decided to relocate from Peterborough to be closer to our son and his young family, hoping to spend more time as hands-on grandparents. Our son already lives in a Taylor Wimpey home in an earlier phase of the Dargavel Village development, so we were familiar with the development and the area from our frequent visits. After deciding to move north of the border, we looked at second-hand homes in various towns and villages across Renfrewshire. After ten months of searching and missing out on the ‘offers over’ process, we thought we’d at least see what new builds had to offer.“
To be honest, we weren’t originally fans of new builds. But this Taylor Wimpey development surprised us. The streets have real character, and when we viewed the four-bedroom Macleod from the Caledonian Collection, the layout just felt right. We loved the flow of the house, the specifications, and the space we could have, and we especially liked the kitchen and social spaces at the back - they give the part of the house we use most a sense of privacy. The fact that the home was almost complete meant we could walk around it properly, which made a big difference. Securing a corner plot was the icing on the cake.“

One of the biggest surprises was realising how much simpler life could be with a new build. After months of looking at older properties that needed work or perhaps had hidden issues, it was refreshing to know we weren’t buying other people’s problems. Energy efficiency was a huge factor, too - with the cost of bills these days, it gave us real peace of mind to buy a new home with all the features it offers. Low‑maintenance living was also exactly what we needed at this stage of life, and the warranties from both Taylor Wimpey and NHBC added another layer of reassurance.“
The whole process was made so much easier thanks to our sales executive, Amber. The move was a big one for us - after 60 years in Peterborough, it was emotional - but she guided us through every step. She even sent regular video updates because we were too far away to pop in, which made us feel part of the journey. Using one of Taylor Wimpey’s recommended solicitors helped too, especially since we weren’t familiar with the Scottish property system.
Taylor Wimpey provided a variety of incentives, including paying our LBTT, which we had forgotten we needed to pay, so that was a lovely bonus.“
Move-in day in late November felt as though it was meant to be. The drive up the A1 was smooth. When we arrived, our customer relations manager, Stacey, walked us through the home demo, and then Amber popped over to welcome us to our new home with a bottle of bubbly. It was overwhelming in the best way, realising that we’d made such a big move and that we’d done it.“

"We’ve settled in so well. Everyone here is friendly, and because most of us are new to Dargavel View, a strong sense of community is forming. We're in the new park near the development almost every day with our granddaughter, or walking our son’s dog, and the countryside around Dargavel Village is simply stunning. We love the outdoors, so having beautiful walks only minutes from our front door feels like such a gift. It’s the best of both worlds -close to family and amenities without feeling remote.
“We are enjoying putting our own stamp on the house now. At first, we felt that we needed to do everything at once, but now we’re taking our time and really enjoying each room as it comes together. The garden will be next, once we decide what to do with our blank canvas.
“Looking back, we’re so glad we made the move. Being able to see our granddaughter so often is wonderful, and life here already feels like home."
In The Community
We recently challenged Primary 5 pupils of Dargavel Primary School to design a flag to welcome customers and visitors to our Dargavel View development in Bishopton.
The winning flag design, created by Chloe, aged 10, has been produced into a flag that now proudly flies at the entrance to the development, providing a warm and colourful welcome to everyone visiting Dargavel View. Chloe took home a £50 book voucher and recently visited the development to see the flag in situ.

The standard of the entries was so high that five additional entries were chosen to form part of the additional signage at the development, welcoming visitors. These junior designers have each received a £15 book voucher.
Louise Chisholm, Depute Head Teacher at Dargavel Primary, said: “Taking part in the Taylor Wimpey competition to design a flag for their Dargavel View housing development was an exciting opportunity for our Primary 5 classes to be involved in. The children enjoyed tackling their brief to create a bold and colourful design, and I understand the judges found it hard to choose a winner due to the high standard of entries. The flag looks great, and the banner is so colourful too. Together they showcase the hard work and artistic talent of our children and create a lovely connection between our school and the local Taylor Wimpey development.”
Audrey Ross, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland adds: “We are delighted with the winning flag design and indeed the other designs that we chose to create a warm welcome to our Dargavel View development. We recognise the importance of making sure that we support the communities in which we build our new homes. It has been our pleasure to work with Dargavel Primary on this project, and to strengthen and extend our links once again within the local community of Dargavel Village and Bishopton.”
Local investment
We are pleased to donate £700 to The Good Shepherd Centre as part of our ongoing per plot commitment at the Dargavel View development in Bishopton. This contribution reflects the £25 donation pledged for every new home sold and legally completed at the development, which forms part of the wider Dargavel Village master plan.
This initial payment marks the beginning of a series of donations that will total £5,325 over the lifetime of the development, reinforcing the long-standing relationship.
The charity, based in Bishopton, provides secure and intensive support for vulnerable young people, helping them build positive futures through personalised care, education, and skills development.
Robert Clark, Head of Intensive Support & Throughcare at The Good Shepherd Centre, expressed his appreciation for the continued partnership, saying: “This donation is a fantastic reflection of our continued partnership with Taylor Wimpey West Scotland. Their support genuinely makes a difference to the young people we work with, and it allows us to keep developing spaces and opportunities that help them thrive.
“We have some exciting plans of how we hope the young people will use the outdoor space, and the continued support from Taylor Wimpey West Scotland will help us massively in reaching our end goal of creating a multi-functional space where we can all enjoy the health benefits of being outside in the garden.”
Audrey Ross, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, said:
“We are delighted to make this £700 donation as part of our commitment to The Good Shepherd Centre. Their work plays a vital role in supporting young people in the local area, and we are proud that our contribution will help them progress their plans for enhancing their outdoor spaces. Supporting the communities around our developments is incredibly important to us, and we’re pleased to continue making a positive difference.”

Planning approval for our final phase in Bishopton
We are pleased to confirm that Renfrewshire Council has approved our Approval of Matters Specified in Conditions (AMSC) planning application for our final development of new homes within the popular Dargavel Village masterplan in Bishopton.
Located off Arrochar Drive, our approved plans will deliver 315 new homes, including 257 from our new national range of house types and 58 homes from our exclusive Caledonian Collection.
Our final phase will offer a diverse mix of three, four and five-bedroom homes designed to meet the needs of a wide range of buyers, from first-time homeowners to growing families.
Providing a seamless continuation of activity in Dargavel Village, subject to final technical permissions being agreed, construction is expected to begin in the next few months.
Key features of the approved development include:
• A variety of house types and styles, including semi-detached and detached homes.
• A sustainable heating solution, with every home fitted with an Air Source Heat Pump.
• Enhanced biodiversity measures such as hedgehog highways, bug hotels, bird boxes and bee bricks.
• Safe and accessible footpath links throughout the development, connecting to the wider Dargavel Village masterplan, with Arrochar Drive transitioning from Craigton Drive.
• Excellent connectivity to local amenities, including the recently opened 45-acre Central Park and the vibrant new village centre.
• Convenient transport links, including park-and-ride access at Bishopton Train Station and proximity to the new Bishopton M8 motorway junction.
Martin Findlay, Technical Director at Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, said: “We are delighted that our AMSC application has been approved, marking an important milestone and reflecting over 15 years of commitment to this new and vibrant Renfrewshire community since the first Planning Permission in Principle was granted in 2011. We are incredibly proud of our key role in delivering the Dargavel Village masterplan. This final development will complete our contribution with a well-connected, sustainable community that provides high-quality new homes while enhancing the local environment and supporting long-term growth. We look forward to starting construction in the coming months and continuing our positive relationship with Renfrewshire Council and the local community.”
