“We live just three doors away from each other” - family share home purchasing experience at Valley Park
Ady Burton (54), an Electrical Engineer, and his wife, Viv (56), a mental health charity worker for the NHS, had been living in Barcelona for a year and half while Ady worked there. But the couple missed their family, so decided to return to the UK. At the same time, their daughter, Jodie (29), a Business Support Assistant, and her partner, Danny Worrallo (31), a Lead Production Engineer, wanted to upsize from their two-bedroom home in Didcot.
First impressions
Commenting on their first visit to Valley Park, Viv said: “Jodie had been looking at Valley Park and was really impressed by it, so that’s when our search started and then, because of that, Jodie decided to go for it and bought her house, which is now three doors down from us.
“We were also impressed by Valley Park when we visited it for the first time. The build quality is really good, and we liked the green space and the welcoming site Taylor Wimpey has created. When you come onto the estate, it’s just got a really nice feel to it. It’s the perfect area for us.”
Choosing the perfect home
Ady said: “Our previous UK home in Abingdon was built in the 1930s, so it always needed some work done to it. We wanted to buy something that was modern and new, and was ready to move into.”
The couple opted for a three-bedroom Aynesdale house type which features an open plan kitchen/dining area, and a spacious living room. With upstairs offering two double bedrooms, one of which has an ensuite, and a third, single bedroom.
Viv said: “We chose the Aynesdale because we loved the layout and I really wanted a South-facing garden. It’s also detached, which we’ve never had before. We’re really pleased with it.”
Meanwhile, Jodie and Danny opted for the three-bedroom Eynsford house type. Jodie said: “It has a larger, more entertaining-focused kitchen with a separate living area. The utility room and pantry also really sold it to me.”
A stress-free purchasing experience
Viv and Ady faced the extra challenge of purchasing their home while still abroad, but with the help of Jodie and our sales team, the couple had a stress-free experience.
Viv said: “The whole process of buying the property went so smoothly, we couldn’t fault the sales team - all of them were amazing. We only visited the development once to have a look around. From there, between the sales team and Jodie, they handled it all for us and helped us the whole way. They allowed Jodie to visit the house and take photos and videos to keep us updated with its progress, which was really nice.”
Ady continued: “On the day of completion, Jodie was able to pick up the keys for us and then we drove over from Spain and collected them.”
With a previous home to sell, Jodie and Danny bought their home using our Easymover scheme. With this scheme, our sales team helps buyers manage the sale of their existing home using their marketing and negotiating skills to make the sales process as simple as possible by removing the pressure to find a buyer. Estate agent fees are covered*, saving both money and time.
Jodie said: “Easymover was really helpful when selling my previous house, it made the buying process really easy.
“We also had lots of other upgrade incentives, such as being able to choose the kitchen style, colours throughout the house, herringbone flooring in Dutch limed oak, built-in wardrobes in the bedroom, and a feature wall in the shower. The Taylor Wimpey team supported me with choosing these and helped me through the whole process.”
On the other hand, Viv and Ady received a stamp duty contribution along with their own upgrade package. Ady said: “We had herringbone flooring downstairs and premium carpets upstairs which are really soft. The package also included built-in wardrobes and turf for the garden, so the house was ready for us to move into and when we came in on the first day it was immaculate.”
The perfect place for all the family
Ady and Viv were the first to move into their new home in August 2025, Jodie joined them at Valley Park just ten days later. Now that they’ve settled in, the family shared their favourite things about their new homes, the development, the Didcot area, and what it’s like living at Valley Park together.
Ady said: “We’re really impressed with the build quality and the after care service from the Taylor Wimpey team. It’s also been really nice having our daughter live down the road.
“It’s a really great area to be in. The town centre is just up the road with some great shops, cafes and bars. There’s lots of really nice walks as well, at lunch we’ll take the dog out and there’s lots of little lanes and pubs on route too, which is a bonus. They’re currently building more recreational areas, including a children’s park and allotments which we’re really looking forward to. The transport links are really good for all the main routes, so it’s easy to get into London and Reading.
“We’re really looking forward to spending more time here and enjoying the house. We love it.”
Jodie said: “We’re close to the train station which is handy because I commute to London once a month. It’s a lovely community and it’s been great to have Taylor Wimpey work with us and enable us to live so close together.”
Viv added: “Living just three doors down from each other has a lot of benefits, such as having just one lawnmower between us which we call the “sharemower”. Ady likes cooking, so he’s always experimenting with food and making extra so Jodie can have some as well.
“When Ady has the day off work and Jodie and I are working from home, he’ll often make bacon baps for me upstairs and then take one over to Jodie too. Jodie and I often go to the gym up the road together which has a ‘Bring a Friend Friday’ scheme, which is really nice. We can also just pop out for a coffee, lunch, the shops or take the dog out for a walk.”
A 100% recommendation for Taylor Wimpey
The whole family agreed that they would recommend purchasing a new build home from Taylor Wimpey.
Ady said: “We looked at other houses in the local area, but Taylor Wimpey’s homes really stood out as being top quality. They’ve also got a fantastic sales team here who made the process really easy. I would 100% recommend Taylor Wimpey if anyone is looking to buy a new build.”
Viv added: “You’ve got to come and visit Valley Park and see how good the homes are because the finish is just superb, they’ve really thought of everything and you will be impressed for sure. It’s the finishing touches, you can tell lots of thought has gone into it all. Some of our friends that have been around were so impressed and surprised at the quality of a new build home from Taylor Wimpey.”
Jodie finished with: “We definitely recommend Taylor Wimpey, they have been really amazing. This is my second new build home and my first time buying with Taylor Wimpey, the quality actually doesn’t compare to my previous home.”

First time buyers settle down as Valley Park’s first residents
First time buyers, Davide Surdi (33), a Senior Brand Manager, and Federica Calza (34), a Quality Assurance Manager, are Valley Park’s first residents, having moved into their new Taylor Wimpey home in April 2025.
The couple had been renting a flat in Bracknell and wanted to get onto the property ladder. When asked why they chose a new-build home as their first home rather than a pre-owned one, Davide said: “We wanted a new-build because of the assurance of quality materials used, there’s less maintenance needed, and they have a more modern style.”
“We were looking for a place with good transport connections and a close link to the main motorways to commute to work. We also wanted to live in an area with lots of space and green scenery, as we love spending time trekking and cycling.”
After exploring other housebuilders in the area, Davide and Federica decided on Taylor Wimpey. Federica said: “Taylor Wimpey’s Valley Park was the perfect choice because of its combination of style, quality, price, location, and the friendly approach by the sales team.”
“We were looking for a three-bedroom property with a large garden to spend time outside. For that reason, we decided to choose the Eynsford house type as it was the perfect combination for style, space and location.”
When asked about the sales process, Davide said: “We were concerned at the beginning as purchasing our first home was a big step for us. However, everything moved incredibly fast and the sales team were very supportive. We were advised at every step and the customer experience was amazing. We were given a handbook that described every step in the purchasing timeline which made the whole process much clearer. Not only that, but we were also able to monitor the process on the Taylor Wimpey website, which was exciting and helped us to plan the move adequately.”
Now that they’ve settled in, Federica shared their favourite things about their new home and the local area: “We love our garden, it’s a brilliant space to spend time together and relax after a full day of work. The development is beautiful and even beyond our expectations. The area is lovely and the transportation connections are great, supermarkets are even closer than they were at our previous home. Didcot is also conveniently closer to Oxford, so we can explore more restaurants and other local amenities.
“Taylor Wimpey made this process as easy as possible, and the sales team made us enjoy the journey of becoming homeowners."

I was pleased to learn that the homes on this phase are being built with an energy rating of A which will reduce running costs for the residents who are starting to move in.”

We inspire a love for reading this World Book Day
We supported Didcot Primary Academy with its World Book Day 2026 celebrations, encouraging a love for reading among pupils while also putting back into the communities in which we build.
World Book Day promotes reading for pleasure and sees pupils across the country celebrate their love for literature.
Didcot Primary Academy received a £250 book voucher donation to go towards its participation in The National Year of Reading 2026 campaign. The campaign was launched by the Department for Education and the National Literacy Trust in response to a survey* which revealed that reading for pleasure is facing a generational decline and aims to reverse this by encouraging reading engagement across the UK.
Chris Lamming, English Lead at Didcot Primary Academy, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Taylor Wimpey for this generous £250 book token. As we embrace the government’s Year of Reading, this gift allows our pupils to truly 'Go All In' with their literacy. By adding into our Early Years and KS1 libraries with books covering a vast range of interests, we are empowering our youngest learners to 'Read Into It' and develop a lifelong passion for discovery.”
Roz Wells, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties, said: “We are so pleased to have supported Didcot Primary Academy this World Book Day. We hope that the pupils feel inspired to pick up a book and engage with reading during their spare time - or even write their own.”

We sponsor school trip to Didcot Railway Centre
We sponsored Didcot Primary Academy’s school trip to Didcot Railway Centre with a £500 donation. The 21-acre museum features a large collection of Great Western Railway steam trains, carriages, wagons, buildings and artifacts. The academy’s Year 2 pupils visited the centre on Wednesday 15th October and our donation was put towards the costs of the educational trip, which included workshops and exploring the museum.
“After an exciting journey, the children stepped through a time machine where they were able to meet Isambard Kingdom Brunel's mum and learn all about his work and experiences as the designer of the Great Western Railway, which connected London with the Southwest of England and Wales in the 1830s. In the afternoon, the children explored the centre and learned all about railways and how they work.”
“Our donation is part of our ongoing commitment to supporting education within the community surrounding our Didcot development, Valley Park. School trips such as these are not only vital for the children to learn about the history of our country, but also to learn more about their town and appreciate the unique attractions that Didcot has to offer.”
