Kids design bird boxes for sustainability project

Children at St Charles Primary School at Newton Farm, Cambuslang have been busy designing their own bird boxes as part of a sustainability challenge set by our Newton Farm development to encourage more wildlife into private gardens.

Putting a creative spin on sustainability

The children were invited to take part in a competition to paint their own bird box, and our local sustainability champion, Maya Calvert, chose her favourite three designs before the children all took their bird boxes home to install in their own gardens.

We supplied St Charles Primary School with all the materials needed for the project, and over 20 children took part. Based on their eye-catching bird box designs, the winners – Millie (Primary 6); Ewa (Primary 4) and Aiden (P6) - were also awarded with National Book Tokens.

Stylish bird boxes in our communities

Every child also received a copy of our Ecotastic Activity book which is designed to help children find out fun facts about the environment, while also discovering some interesting ways that we are making our new homes and developments more sustainable too.

Our sustainability champion, Maya Calvert, said: “We’re always looking for new and innovative ways to work with local communities near our developments, so we were delighted when St Charles Primary agreed to take part in our bird box design competition.

“Not only are we providing brand new and stylish homes for our customers at Newton Farm in Cambuslang, there are also now some very stylish bird boxes for the local birds to call home too!
