We have donated £500 to help launch a brand-new construction course for students at Northern Education Trust Thorp Academy in Ryton

The new course has been established by the Academy to create a specialist route into the construction industry for students in Key Stage 4 and 5, providing them with qualifications so that they are ready to take their next steps into the industry, whether that is through an apprenticeship or higher education.

Our donation has gone towards new equipment for the students including a cement mixer and brick working tools. We’ve also donated a selection of health and safety signs to help students on the course familiarise themselves with signage used on construction sites.

Joe Temple, Teacher at Thorp Academy, said: “We are extremely grateful to Taylor Wimpey for this donation which is helping us bring this brand-new course to our students.

“It has been fantastic to receive this donation from a prominent business within the construction sector, and we are hopeful that the course will enable our students to reach their full potential within the industry.”

Sarah Northcott, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey North East, said: “We are pleased to have been able to offer this donation to Thorp Academy.

“We are continually looking for ways to work with and contribute to the communities close to our developments, so we are thrilled to be able to work with Thorp Academy to help launch their new construction course. We hope the students enjoy learning all there is to learn about the construction industry.”
