We are working in partnership with Hedgehog Street, a joint campaign between wildlife charities The British Hedgehog Preservation Society and People’s Trust for Endangered Species, to integrate hedgehog highways across our new developments.
Jason Stokes, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey South East, says: “It’s a real shame that hedgehog numbers have declined so dramatically over the last 20 years. Through our partnership with Hedgehog Street we hope to raise awareness of the simple things people can do to help protect them and to play our part by installing hedgehog highways at our developments.
“We asked pupils at St Martin’s Church of England Primary School to design a poster for us to illustrate the highways at Shorncliffe Heights and were delighted with the entries we received. They were all brilliant and it was really hard to choose a winner. Well done to everyone who took part.”
Grace Johnson, Hedgehog Officer for Hedgehog Street adds: “It was Hedgehog Street’s 10th birthday in 2021 and last year we also celebrated reaching 100,000 Hedgehog Champions – people across the country who have all pledged to make their gardens more hedgehog friendly. We want to encourage even more people to help reduce the decline in hedgehogs. We know the decline in urban areas is starting to slow down, thanks to small actions like creating hedgehog highways, so it’s fantastic to be working with Taylor Wimpey and we’re really pleased that a hedgehog highway has been installed at Shorncliffe Heights.”
