Celebrating new talent

Having a keen interest in design and construction, Blaine joined Taylor Wimpey in September 2022. He said: "I always knew that I wanted to work within the industry. When applying for jobs and speaking to different organisations, I was drawn to Taylor Wimpey for a number of reasons,  especially as we are one of the largest construction organisations in the UK and the working environment is really varied."

Blaine's journey as an apprentice has had a number of standout moments. Currently, he is immersed in a challenging task for the Castle Manor site in Ashby De-La Zouch, involving a hydraulic bus gate. This project requires extensive research and problem-solving skills to produce a comprehensive plan for the proposed bus gate, and Blaine is relishing the challenge.

Now in the second year of his apprenticeship, Blaine has acquired a wide array of vital skills. Blaine shares: "So far I feel like I’ve really improved a variety of essential life skills, such as communication and the ability to work as part of a large team, as well as key knowledge of my job and how to progress throughout my career.”

Reflecting on his journey as an apprentice, Blaine would encourage those starting out in the industry to "try your best to make good impressions, get stuck in with as many people and as many tasks as possible, and don't be afraid to ask for help!"
Steve Clarke, Technical Director at Taylor Wimpey East Midlands, said: “Blaine is a testament to the success which is achievable for apprentices that can demonstrate their commitment, hard work and passion for their chosen field. As Blaine continues to climb the ladder in the construction industry, his story serves as an inspiration for aspiring apprentices and young professionals alike.”
