We Honour Skilled Apprentices this National Apprentice Week

We are proudly celebrating our apprentices achievements across the Southern Counties region this National Apprenticeship Week, which takes place from 5th - 11th February 2024.

Supporting our apprentices

In its 17th year, the week-long celebration this year focuses on ‘Skills For Life’ and aims to encourage everyone to consider how apprenticeships can help individuals to develop the skills they need to develop a rewarding career in something that they love.

Celebrating opportunities for all, Oliver Winter, a carpenter at our Canford Vale development in Canford and Andrew James, a carpenter at our Shaw Valley Development in Newbury, share how their apprenticeships have been instrumental in helping them to build on their practical skills through on-the-job training.

Andrew James

Oliver, 18 from Bournemouth, is currently undertaking his level two apprenticeship in Carpentry. He said: “I am four months into my apprenticeship with Taylor Wimpey. The diverse range of work and experience I have gained already is fantastic thanks to my apprentice coach and site team who have helped me to really settle into the role. Since joining, I have gained insights into health and safety, environmental impacts, and carpentry techniques while working with experienced mentors and I hope to progress to my level three apprenticeship with Taylor Wimpey.

Andrew, 25 from Oxford, is currently completing his level two apprenticeship in Carpentry. He said: “I started my apprenticeship with Taylor Wimpey in September 2021 and have loved the journey and have hugely built on my skills and experience. It’s been great to experience the different stages of housebuilding and be a part of the journey towards someone's home being built. My hope is to eventually take the route to becoming a self employed carpenter one day and use the skills I have learnt to excel in my career.”
