We are proud to support World Book Day this year

World Book Day celebrations at schools across Devon and Somerset were boosted by a donation of National book tokens from our Exeter team.

The pleasures of reading

World Book Day aims to encourage children of all ages to enjoy and appreciate the pleasures of reading, with the mission to offer every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own.

We donated £200 of National Book Tokens to schools near seven of our sites to help the schools buy books for their libraries.

The chosen schools were:
- St Leonard's Church of England Primary School near Apsham Grange in Topsham
- St Martin's Church of England Primary School and Nursery near Cranbrook in Exeter
- St Andrew’s Primary School near Culm Valley Park in Cullompton
- Littletown Primary School near Mountbatten Mews in Honiton
- Orchard Grove Primary near Orchard Grove in Taunton
- Sherford Vale Primary School near Sherford in Plymouth
- St Bartholomew's Primary School near Wool Gardens in Crewkerne

Simon Fisher, Deputy Headteacher at St Leonard's Church of England Primary School, said: “World Book Day is a wonderful initiative which really encourages children to develop their reading. We’ll be able to add a collection of brand-new books to our library thanks to Taylor Wimpey’s donation, and we’re looking forward to seeing our pupils get stuck into some new stories.”

Hannah Biggs, Office Manager at Sherford Vale School, said: “We’re so pleased to be a part of Taylor Wimpey’s plans for World Book Day this year as we see reading as a crucial part of learning. On behalf of everyone at Sherford Vale Primary School, we’d like to say a huge thank you to Taylor Wimpey. We really cannot wait for the addition of brand-new books to our school library.”
