We give boost to Purwell Meadows Nature Reserve

We have donated £250 to Purwell Meadows Nature Reserve in Hitchin, a designated Local Wildlife Site and Local Nature Reserve.

Supporting our communities

Our £250 donation is part of our ongoing effort to give back to the community surrounding our Hitchin development, Weston Gate, and has been used to enhance select gates at the reserve, ensuring a welcoming and improved environment for its visitors.

With its rich mixture of dry and marshy grassland, Purwell Meadows Nature Reserve is home to a variety of plants, birds, animals and insects including water voles, otters, and kingfishers. It's part of a chain of important wildlife areas across the Purwell Valley that are linked by the River Purwell.

As well as being a vital site for wildlife habitats, it's also a great place to visit for dog walks, and the nearby recreation ground includes a basketball court, football pitch, children's play area and youth shelter.

Sarah Kingsley, Service Director for Place at North Herts Council, said: "We're grateful for this donation from Taylor Wimpey which we used to replace some worn out gates, which local volunteers kindly installed. A lovely little improvement made possible by a real community effort - many thanks to all involved."
