London charity to help the blind receives our support.
A Successful 'Meet your neighbor' Event, where all our new purchasers got to know each other over mulled wine and mince pies!

We lent our support to a charity which helps visually impaired people enjoy sport, by providing a £1,500 cash donation.

Metro is a thriving London-based sports and social club for blind and partially sighted people of all ages. Activities organised by Metro include tennis sessions at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton and archery at the Aspire Centre in Wandsworth.

Metro Fundraising Officer Carol McFetridge says: “We are very grateful to Taylor Wimpey for their generous donation, which will make a huge difference to our members. A donation of this size, for example, will fund at least 15 sessions of archery for a group of archers.

“We do a lot of work trying to encourage visually impaired youngsters to take part in sport as it can be of huge benefit to them, not only in getting physical exercise, but also in boosting their independence and confidence.”

Metro was founded in 1973 by an inspirational group of young blind and partially sighted people who were not prepared to accept the expectations and restrictions of the day, and their spirit of challenging barriers and opening doors to all sports for members continues today.

Some of the charity’s founding members went on to become leading national and international athletes and were also instrumental in creating many of the national and international organisations through which sports for people with visual impairment now take place.
