We give Essex students careers talk
We visited the Colchester Institute to give a careers talk to studentsWivenhoe pupils sow wildflower seeds at war memorial site
Wivenhoe children have helped to bring colour and hope to a special space that honours the town’s war dead by planting wildflower seeds.Pupils from Millfields Primary School visited our Wyvern Place development on Friday 4 April 2025 for the latest in a series of activities at a new war memorial.
The project has been led by local resident Phil Long. In November 2022 children from Broomgrove School planted 55 trees to commemorate the men of Wivenhoe whose names appear on the town war memorial.
Two years later a permanent memorial was installed, comprising two stainless steel screens with 75 poppies cut out, each representing a man of Wivenhoe who died in the two World Wars.
Pupils at Millfields Primary School were asked to design patterns on poppy shapes, and a selection of these were then chosen to be etched onto steel, painted red and fixed to the screens.
The site was prepared for the sowing by Taylor Wimpey’s landscaper for the Wyvern Place site, Elite Pop-ups Limited.
Mr Long said: “Working with the children has been a real pleasure, it has been amazing to create such a special place which will grow and develop as they grow up. It will be a permanent reminder of the sacrifices made for their freedom and be somewhere they will, eventually, be able to take their own children to. Working with Taylor Wimpey and the team from Elite Pop-ups has been great and I am so grateful for their enthusiastic help and support throughout the project.”
Michael O’Leary, Regional Operations and Sales Director at Taylor Wimpey London, said: “It’s been an honour to support Phil in his tireless work to create a lasting memorial for the sons of Wivenhoe who gave their lives for their country.
“To involve the younger generations in this project is really important, as it helps children to learn about the sacrifices their ancestors made, and sowing wildflower seeds that will bloom with life shows that there is hope after such tragedies.”

Wyvern Place becomes home to memorial for fallen soldiers
We worked with a Wivenhoe resident to create a home for a poignant memorial to fallen soldiers at Wyvern Place.
Phil Long led the project to install the memorial, which comprises two steel screens with 75 poppies cut out, each representing a man of Wivenhoe who died in the two World Wars.
Pupils at Millfields Primary School in Wivenhoe were asked to design patterns on poppy shapes, and a selection were then chosen to be etched onto steel poppy shapes, painted red and fixed to the screens.
In November 2022 children from Broomgrove School in Wivenhoe planted 55 trees to commemorate the men of Wivenhoe who fell in the two world wars and whose names appear on the town war memorial.
The screens were erected just in front of 55 memorial trees which were planted in November 2022 by pupils from Broomgrove Primary School.
Mr Long said: “Taylor Wimpey’s involvement in both parts of the project, the trees and the screens, has been invaluable and nothing could have been done without their help and support.”

Buying with Easymover
Couple buy dream house together with Easymover
Dan (45), a self-employed Coach, Trainer and Facilitator, and his husband, Daniel (35), a Hair Colourist and Hairdresser, have taken the next step in their relationship in buying a home together after Daniel moved to the UK from Canada.
A peace of mind
The couple moved into their new home from Dan’s 12-year-old town-house in Beswick. When asked why Dan wanted to purchase a new build again, he said: “New build homes come with the NHBC warranty as well as being more energy efficient. They are also move-in ready, so there is less ongoing maintenance.”
The couple purchased their home using our Easymover scheme, which allows homebuyers to reserve their new home while we help to manage the sale of their old one. We’ll use our expert marketing and negotiation skills to sell the previous home quickly and will also handle estate agents and help to cover the estate agent fees*.
Dan said “Easymover made it so much easier knowing that we didn’t need to be under offer before going to Taylor Wimpey and reserving our home and that they would take care of everything. This took so much stress out of the buying process. We also appreciated the savings involved regarding the estate agent’s fees and contributions towards stamp duty. It allowed us to spend a little more on some lovely upgrades for our new home.”

Taylor Wimpey returns to Colchester college to give careers talk to Essex students
We visited the Colchester Institute for the second time to give a careers talk to a group of students keen to learn more about construction and housebuilding.
The presentation on 5th February 2025 covered a wide range of topics designed to inspire and educate the next generation of construction professionals. Students gained valuable insights into various career paths within the industry, as well as the importance of essential practices like toolbox talks, health and safety culture, and risk assessments.
The session was led by Dean Wingfield, Production Director for Taylor Wimpey London, who was a former student at the college. This is the second time Dean has visited his old college, and our involvement is part of the our ongoing effort to support education and skills development in local communities.
We are currently building a collection of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes at Hartford Green in Great Bentley, not far from the college.
Christopher Coe, Area Head for Wood Occupations at Colchester Institute, said: “It’s fantastic to have Taylor Wimpey return to Colchester Institute to engage with our students and share real-world industry insights. These sessions not only broaden students’ understanding of career opportunities
in construction but also reinforce the importance of key industry practices such as health and safety and risk management. Having former students like Dean Wingfield come back and inspire the next generation is invaluable in bridging the gap between education and employment.”
Dean Wingfield, Production Director for Taylor Wimpey London, said: “Taylor Wimpey is committed to giving back to the communities where we build, and talks like these are a key part of that commitment. It’s vital that we support and empower young people to pursue careers in construction, and we’re proud to provide guidance and insight that may inspire them to join the industry."
