Kirsty has recently taken her first step on to the property ladder with a move to a new Andrew two bedroom home at Calder Wynd in Carnbroe. Alongside Bailey, her adorable red fox labrador retriever, she’s feeling right at home and enjoying life in this new and growing community in North Lanarkshire.
"As a first-time buyer, I was initially worried that the process of buying a new home would be daunting. However, my experience with Taylor Wimpey was so straightforward and hassle-free. Chris, the sales executive, was great and just reassuring. He’s incredibly helpful and there was never a question he couldn’t answer – and trust me I asked him lots.
“I recently moved into my new two-bedroom Andrew house, and I absolutely love it! Even though this is the smallest house type at the development, it’s surprising when you open the front door to a big hallway. Overall, the layout is really spacious, and my friends often say the house is like a tardis. The size of the main bedroom was a major selling point for me – it had to be big enough to have a large bed for the dog and I so the main bedroom in my new house is just perfect. Downstairs is really great too – there’s an open-plan lounge and dining area is great for when I have friends or family over. Plus there’s French doors out to my private back garden – which is ideal when Bailey wants to explore outside!
“Taylor Wimpey also helped me with a 5% deposit, which was incredibly helpful in getting me on the move. Their support gave me the confidence to take the leap and purchase my first home. And buying a new home versus a second-hand one means there are no surprises, and I knew the price I would pay, and I love that there’s no maintenance or DIY required.

“I looked at other developments, but I chose Carnbroe because the area was recommended by friends that I went to university with who live locally. They’ve never left, and they were absolutely right about how brilliant it is. There’s a friendly feeling of community and plenty of green spaces for walks with my dog.
“The location is brilliant for my work too. Although I work from home, I also need easy access to the motorway to get to Edinburgh and Glasgow, and I have regular meetings at Eurocentral which is just down the road so it’s perfect.
“Overall, Chris and the team at Taylor Wimpey made the entire process smooth and enjoyable. Chris took me through the sales process step by step and reassured me throughout, and the aftercare I’ve had since I moved in has been superb and that is maybe part of my customer journey with Taylor Wimpey that has surprised me most. When you buy a new car, you pick up the keys and drive off and you never hear from the garage. But since I’ve moved into Calder Wynd the team has been in regular contact with me to make sure everything is OK and that I’m settling in.
“I’ve been so impressed with the quality of my house and the service that I’ve had that I’m already trying to convince some of my friends to buy at this development. \...
“And if I had any advice for other first-time buyers considering a move to Calder Wynd, or in fact any other Taylor Wimpey development I’d say just go for it.
“I was worried that I would regret my decision, and I cried the day that I officially signed the paperwork to go ahead with the purchase, but this has been the best decision I’ve taken and for my first home it’s perfect. I’ve already told Chris that when I am ready for my next step up the property ladder that I’ll be looking at this development.”

Safety posters form Riverbank Primary School
We challenged the children of Riverbank Primary School to design a health and safety poster that would remind the local community of the dangers associated with playing near any construction site.
The standard of entries was so impressive that six designs were selected to be included within a banner to be displayed at the development. The children each won a £15 national book voucher.

It is important to be proactive and work with local schools, as Deryck Schendel, Regional Health and Safety Advisor for Taylor Wimpey in Scotland, explains, “Health and safety in and around our construction areas is so important to Taylor Wimpey. As a follow-up activity to our in-school health and safety presentation, our poster challenge is a great way for children to demonstrate what they learned during our visit.”
Mrs Paterson, Head Teacher at Riverbank Primary School, adds: “Following Taylor Wimpey's health and safety presentation, the children were tasked with creating health and safety posters. The designs on the banners for the development are colourful and striking, and we are very proud of our children’s efforts to remind the wider local community never to play near a live construction site.”

Health and safety talk with Riverbank Primary School
We returned to school this week to remind the children at Riverbank Primary in Carnbroe about health and safety as construction at our development of new homes at nearby Calder Wynd is well underway. With the school summer holidays just starting and now that the show homes are open, we were keen to promote the dangers of playing near any construction site. Our visit was a helpful way to raise awareness of the children’s need to be extra vigilant as the building of our new homes progresses.
Being proactive with local schools has proven an effective deterrent in the past, as Deryck Schendel, Regional Health and Safety Advisor for Taylor Wimpey in Scotland, explains: “Health and safety in and around our construction areas is of vital importance to Taylor Wimpey. Taking this type of proactive approach with local schools allows us to reinforce just how important it is for children to stay away from building sites, and it gives us the chance to remind the children that building sites are not playgrounds!”

Visitors also had their first opportunity to view two stylish show homes at the development—the Fraser and Maxwell four bedroom detached homes—and there was a range of activities for families to enjoy, including storytelling, face painting, balloon modelling, a teddy bear hunt, and the chance to meet a giant balloon bear.
Guests at the event were also encouraged to guess how many balloons it took to create the giant balloon bear, and Ollie from Cambuslang guessed the correct number at 64!
