With a change in personal in her personal circumstances, Nancy Coyle was looking to stay in the Holytown area, and when she discovered more about Taylor Wimpey’s Torrance Place she knew this was the place for her new start in life.
It’s been quite a journey as Nancy explains: “I have lived locally for a number of years and grown fond of the area and I’ve set down some roots. As a scientist working in a lab at Eurocentral nearby, I was aware of the Torrance Place development, so I popped onto the website for a look and discovered there was a Baxter three bedroom end terrace that was in my price range. I requested more information and the sales executive called me back inviting me to visit the show homes at the development.
“From the minute I walked into the sales office Alason has taken real care to make this journey about me. She’s been an absolute joy to know, she has given me her undivided attention and she has taken the time to fully understand my circumstances in order to make this move a positive and fresh step for me which I’m so grateful for. When she talked me through the plot I had my eye on, I was happy to sign there and then but she was most insistent that I pop down to the Baxter show home at Barrhead. She also agreed to hold the plot until I gave her a final decision of whether I wanted to proceed or not.
“The minute I stepped into the Baxter show home I knew that I had found my new home. I had a really good look around and could just feel myself at home in this ideal sized house for me and my tiny dog Bonnie. I don’t need a family-sized three bedroom house, but I sometimes work from home so it’s been great to make my third bedroom into a home office and I still have a spare bedroom.
“I called Torrance Place and made an appointment to reserve the Baxter and pay my deposit. Alason was on hand again and took care of me through the whole process and she could not have been more helpful, warm and enthusiastic for me. She’s made this whole process really exciting and very positive.
“Once the deposit was paid, Alason arranged for one of Taylor Wimpey’s approved solicitors – New Home Mortgages - to call me and that was so helpful. From that point it was really over to them, and my missives were concluded a few weeks’ before I was due to move in.
“I was continuously kept informed of my build and when each stage was reached, I was invited to view my property to keep me fully in the loop of how the build was coming along.
“I was also given my site tour and home demonstration, again with helpful and welcoming members of Taylor Wimpey’s customer service and site teams. It has been such a pleasure dealing with all the Taylor Wimpey staff at all stages of the process.
“In October Alason had the delight of handing me the keys to my new home. I loved the little touches like the purple bow on the door, Alason taking photos of me outside and inside my home, and the new home gift box was also a lovely gesture. She made my move-in day quite magical to be honest and when she said ‘there you go, it’s yours not ours anymore’ I was just so happy.
“I started to move-in over the preceding days and I have been settling in ever since - loving every minute. The site team has been brilliant, and they’ve happily sorted a few minor snags that I discovered. They also quickly helped with a little accident that I had with the handle of my patio door and that’s all sorted too.
“Everyone is always happy to help, and they are on-hand whenever needed. I feel really supported owning a property at Torrance Place, plus buying a new home also comes with helpful guarantees that gives you peace of mind that should something happen that it will be fixed.
“My last three homes have been new-build homes, but I was always part of the development at a later stage - this one just feels different. I’m enjoying the fact that have moved into the early part of this phase of the development and it’s lovely to see other people moving in now. Watching the development grow and come to life while being part of it all too is really quite unique. But it’s also very funny that my neighbours and I are bonding over our respective purchases for our new homes from B&Q and The Range – it’s quite the talking point!

“I’ve been in my new home for a few months now and I’m thrilled to have made my move here and left my daily commute from Fife to Eurocentral behind. The team at Torrance Place has really taken care of me throughout my whole journey, and they’ve always made me feel the most important part of the process. I truly can't recommend buying a Taylor Wimpey home enough.”

We challenged Primary 6 pupils of Holytown Primary School to design road signs to encourage drivers to drive safely throughout our local development in Holytown.
The winning designs - created by Hannah Summers, aged 11, and Flynn Thomson, aged 10 - have been recreated as signs that are now installed near the entrance to our Torrance Place development, which is part of the Torrance Park masterplan. In addition to seeing their designs recreated as signs, each of the winners also won a £50 book token.
The overall standard of designs was so high that five more designs were chosen to create a banner for Taylor Wimpey’s show area car park, reminding drivers to drive safely around the development. Each child also received a £15 book token.
Working with Holytown Primary School to convey such an important message has been a great opportunity to connect with the growing community at Torrance Park.
"We recognise the importance of making sure that we support the communities in which we build our new homes. It has been great fun to work with Holytown Primary on this project and to see just how well the children responded to our brief to them. Projects like this allow us to strengthen and extend our links again with this new and growing community in North Lanarkshire. We hope the children’s signs will remind drivers to drive safely around the development."
Audrey Ross, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland
Having the opportunity to work with Taylor Wimpey to create road signs has been an unusual challenge but a great way to deliver a very important message. This is a lovely connection between our school and the local Taylor Wimpey development in Holytown. The children all really enjoyed tackling their brief to create a bold and colourful design and we are very proud of their efforts.

We have donated two more public access defibrillators (PADs) to The Kieran McDade Foundation. These will benefit two local football or sports clubs in Scotland, bringing the housebuilder's donation of lifesaving equipment to the Foundation to four.As part of a joint initiative with the British Heart Foundation (BHF), we are donating potentially life-saving PADs to communities around the UK to help people who suffer from an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
During 2019, the BHF worked with us to train our employees in CPR skills and to provide every one of their building sites in the UK with a defibrillator. As part of its commitment to leaving a lasting legacy in the areas in which it builds, we are donating the defibrillators to local communities when their developments are completed.
We have also committed to ensuring all of its defibrillators are registered on The Circuit, the national defibrillator network, which is a joint venture from the British Heart Foundation, the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives, the Resuscitation Council UK and St John Ambulance. Data on defibrillators registered on The Circuit are visible on the despatch systems used by 999 call handlers. So, when a cardiac arrest occurs, the dispatcher can direct bystanders straight to the nearest defibrillator. This increases the chances of defibrillators being used quickly and significantly improves the chances of a successful resuscitation.
The Kieran McDade Foundation was set up in November 2016 by Dunbeth Football Club in memory of their bright footballing star, Kieran McDade, who tragically died after suffering a cardiac arrest during a training session with his teammates. From then on, the club pledged to source as many defibrillators as possible and donate them to local football and sports clubs to make those places as safe as possible for all who use them. To date, the Foundation has placed 139 defibrillators across Scotland.
Deryck Schendel, Regional Health and Safety Advisor for Taylor Wimpey in Scotland, said: “It’s so important to us that we give something back to the communities where we’re building. Our partnership with the BHF is vitally important in helping to ensure that more defibrillators are available for people who might need them, and we are proud to continue our support of The Kieran McDade Foundation and the incredible work they do with football and sports clubs across Scotland be able to make this equipment readily accessible.”
Derek Murphy, from The Kieran McDade Foundation, said: “We can’t thank Taylor Wimpey enough for these defibrillators. They will be placed with two local football or sports clubs where we hope they never have to use them. It’s fantastic to know that through our work across Scotland, we’re increasing the number of sports clubs and football clubs with access to a defibrillator in an emergency and hopefully help save someone’s life.”
David McColgan, Head of BHF Scotland, said: “Every second counts when someone has a cardiac arrest, and we know that prompt CPR and defibrillation can double the chances of survival in some cases. Increasing the number of publicly accessible defibrillators in our communities – alongside more of us learning CPR skills – can play a vital role in these critical moments. That is why we are delighted that Taylor Wimpey has contributed to the aims of the BHF by making public access defibrillators available to The Kieran McDade Foundation as part of their wider local campaign. It could help save a life.”
A defibrillator is a portable device that can be used by anyone to help restart the heart when someone suffers from a cardiac arrest and has stopped breathing. No specific training is needed, and the device will only deliver a shock to the heart if necessary. When someone has a cardiac arrest, every second counts. For every minute that passes without defibrillation and CPR the chances of survival decrease by around ten per cent.
