Southend named the next hottest town by Time Out
New research suggests Southend could be the next sought-after location for those looking beyond the capital. We help to create new field of remembrance in Shoeburyness
Shoeburyness’s Friars Primary School pupils have designed a range of poppies to decorate our Artillery Mews development, inspired by the iconic poppy installation at the Tower of London. The Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red installation at the Tower of London in 2014 saw 888,246 ceramic poppies fill the moat, each representing a life lost in the First World War. The display in London has returned again this year to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
This year’s display inspired us to create a smaller-scale community tribute at our Artillery Mews development in Shoeburyness.
We encouraged children to explore the meaning of Remembrance Day through art while celebrating the local area’s military heritage, serving as a lasting tribute to those who have served.
After tough deliberation, Isla and Abbie and Skyla, Year 6 (joint) were named as winners for their outstanding designs and the runners up were Memphis and Lexi, Year 4.
The winners received £50 vouchers, and the runners-up received £25 vouchers, recognising their artistic talent and thoughtful approach to the brief. We also gave the school £200 as a thank you for taking part.
Emily Gibbons, Teacher at Friars Primary School, said: “We were delighted to be invited by Taylor Wimpey to take part in their poppy design competition for Remembrance. Our children chose to take part with great enthusiasm, dedicating their lunchtimes to creating thoughtful and beautiful designs to honour this important occasion. We were elated to win some prizes and are so thankful to Taylor Wimpey for giving us this wonderful opportunity.”
Michael O’Leary, Regional Operations and Sales Director at Taylor Wimpey London, commented: “We were truly impressed by the creativity and care shown by all the pupils who took part, creating meaningful symbols of remembrance of those who have served. It has been a privilege to work with Friars Primary School and Nursery to honour those who served while involving the next generation in this important tradition.”
The display at Artillery Mews follows a string of donations by us to the Shoebury CIC, having previously helped them with the restoration of historic military signs. We have a continued relationship with the military in Shoeburyness is a testament to the community’s shared respect and remembrance.
The development was named by the local scouts group, taking inspiration from the rich military history of Shoebury Garrison, which lies next to our Artillery Mews site and dates back to 1849.
We help fund memorial bench at Shoebury War Memorial
We have contributed to the local community in Shoeburyness by helping to fund a new bench at the Shoebury War Memorial. The initiative, led by Shoebury Coastal CIC, provides a lasting tribute to those who have served their country.Located close to our Artillery Mews development, the new bench offers a place for quiet reflection and remembrance. It marks another time where we have supported the CIC, following the installation of a heritage sign earlier this year, paying homage to the local history.
Our funding has supported Shoebury Coastal CIC in bringing the project to life, helping to enhance the war memorial area and create a welcoming space for residents and visitors to pause and pay their respects.
Michael O’Leary, Regional Operations and Sales Director at Taylor Wimpey London, said: “We are proud to support this important community project. The new memorial bench will provide a place of peace and reflection, and we are pleased to play a small part in honouring the memory of those who served. Shoeburyness has a proud history, and this project reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting the local community around Artillery Mews.”
David Hadjicostas MBE, Shoebury Coastal CIC chair and Army veteran, said: ‘’ We are extremely grateful to Taylor Wimpey for their very kind and generous gift. Shoebury hosted a military garrison for over 170 years, with many former servicemen and women settling here with their families after their military service. Our lovely new bench, sitting in front of our War Memorial, and inscribed with the words ‘Lest We Forget’ will serve as a very poignant resting place to remind all of us of those who served, and their sacrifices for the freedoms we enjoy today. Thank you so much.’’
We spark imagination with new mural for Southend-on-Sea school library
As part of an ongoing library update, we have donated towards the creation of a new mural for the school library at Hinguar Community Nursery and School.
The £300 donation will contribute towards the vibrant mural that will adorn the walls of the school’s library, offering a visually engaging and inspiring space for students to enjoy.
Michael O’Leary, Regional Operations and Sales Director at Taylor Wimpey London, commented: “We are delighted to have been part of this special World Book Day celebration at Hinguar Community Nursery and School. By contributing to the new mural, we’re helping create a lasting, creative space that will encourage a love of books and learning. Taylor Wimpey remains committed to supporting local communities and promoting educational initiatives that inspire the next generation."
Alison Waite, Headteacher at Hinguar School, said: “Following a refurbishment of our school library, we held a competition for the children to design a mural. The winning designs were painted by 2 local street artists and were part funded by Taylor Wimpey, in response to a request from the school's English leads, alongside our parents' association, Friends of Hinguar. The children are very proud and delighted that their designs have been used.”
This donation reflects our ongoing commitment to making a positive impact in the communities where it operates, as well as supporting initiatives that encourage children’s creativity and education.

Scout helps to name our new development in Shoeburyness, Southend
We challenged members of a Scout troop to help us pick the perfect name for our upcoming development in Shoeburyness, Southend.
Supporting our communities
We asked 1st Shoeburyness Southend Estuary Scouts to take inspiration from the rich military history of Shoebury Garrison, which lies next to the development site and dates back to 1849.
The Scouts put forward some excellent suggestions but in the end, the team developed "Artillery Mews" as the chosen name, inspired by an idea from a 13-year-old scout. To thank him for his contribution to the new development, we recently invited him to meet the sales team and also presented him with a £50 gift voucher of his choice.
Michael O’Leary, Regional Operations and Sales Director at Taylor Wimpey London, said: “We always want to look at new and exciting ways we can come up with development names, and involving local Scout groups in this process is a great way of doing that.
“We thank Ollie for suggesting the perfect name for our new development. Artillery Mews is more than just a development, it's a symbol of our commitment to creating spaces that reflect and honour local history. We are eagerly counting down the days until its grand opening.”

Family fall in love with the four bedroom Huxford
Our Customer Relations Manager Neil Lelean, his wife Caron and two sons, have found their dream family home in the spacious four bedroom Huxford
The perfect family home
Neil explains: “As a Customer Relations Manager at Taylor Wimpey, I see first hand both the high quality of finish and all the energy efficient features that a Taylor Wimpey home provides. With all my previous homes I’ve had to spend a lot of time and money modernising them and all had ongoing maintenance, but that’s not the case with my Taylor Wimpey home - it's very low maintenance and it was a blank canvas for us to make our own.”
“We were also able to choose the fittings and fixtures in our kitchen and all flooring which was a huge bonus over buying second hand. Also, having a modern finish to the property saves a lot of time and expense from having to do it myself.”
Neil and his family fell in love with the design of the four bedroom Huxford. Neil comments: “We choose the Huxford because it has a good amount of living space downstairs, with a lovely warm and inviting hallway leading on to the large kitchen/dining area at the heart of the home. Upstairs there are four perfectly sized bedrooms - there’s plenty of room for the whole family.”
