New homeowners at Hertford Mill in Hackney Wick have been welcomed with the help of much-loved local independent businesses, Liana Verderocce Floral Studio, a local Tuck Shop and Barge East, in collaboration with us.
As new residents begin their next chapter at the Hertford Mill development, the focus has been on creating meaningful connections with the surrounding neighbourhood from day one. Rather than a traditional housewarming gesture, homeowners received thoughtfully curated hampers designed and created by Hackney-based Liana Verderocce Floral Studio, vouchers for The Tuck Shop and have used Barge East as their go-to caterer.
A London-based, family-run creative business, Liana Verderocce Floral Studio is built on energy, dedication and a shared belief that flowers can do far more than decorate a space. Each commission, from large-scale installations to bespoke gifting, is approached as a form of communication: a way to create connection, provoke emotion and leave a lasting impression.
The hampers created for Hertford Mill homeowners reflected this ethos perfectly. Crafted with care, intention and time, they were designed not simply as gifts, but as experiences that carry memory and presence into a new home.
Just along the River Lee Navigation, Barge East continues to play a vital role in Hackney Wick’s community life. Housed within De Hoop, a 125-year-old Dutch grain barge salvaged and sailed across the North Sea in 2018, the award-winning restaurant has grown from a single floating kitchen into a celebrated “garden-to-plate” destination.
Recently ranked the #1 restaurant in the UK and #9 in the world in TripAdvisor’s 2025 “One of a Kind” category, Barge East remains firmly rooted in its local surroundings. The team has welcomed prospective and new residents to the area during open days and show home events, helping introduce them to the independent spirit and hospitality that define Hackney Wick and Fish Island.
As Hackney Wick continues to evolve, collaborations like these demonstrate how partnerships between local enterprise and new developments can help strengthen community ties, ensuring that growth goes hand in hand with connection, creativity and a strong sense of place.

Local investment
A home is more than just a house, it’s also about the community that surrounds it. And that’s why we invest in building communities that support local businesses, improve facilities in the area and help bring people together.
This is how much Taylor Wimpey has contributed last year

Our community support around Hackney Wick
Back in 2022 we put £1,000 towards helping a Hackney charity reduce hunger in winter.
Made in Hackney is a community kitchen that educates local residents in creating healthy, sustainable and affordable food.
They set an aim of raising £25,000 to deliver 10,000 nutritious meals to Hackney residents. To boost the campaign the charity signed up to the The Big Give initiative, which matches pledges made by individuals and businesses, and we pledged £1,000 to help the charity on its way.
This followed a donation of £500 in 2020 towards a new oven for their kitchen.
Fran Humber, Development Manager at Made in Hackney, said: “At Made In Hackney we believe access to good food is a human right - not a privilege. Our food support is crucial so that our community can stay well-nourished during these economically turbulent, unjust times. For every £2.50 donated we can cook and deliver another meal.
“Donations such as that from Taylor Wimpey have been critical in helping not only our meal service continue, but to encourage others to donate to this campaign.”

We support Hackney Quest with per plot donation scheme
Taylor Wimpey London has made a further donation to Hackney Quest, a charity helping young people and families across Hackney, bringing its total support for the year so far to just over £1,000.
The housebuilder has pledged to support the charity during the construction of its Hertford Mill development in Monier Road. For every private home sold at the site until June 2026, Taylor Wimpey will donate £25 to Hackney Quest. The initiative ensures that as the community grows, so too does the support for local residents.
Hackney Quest runs a range of programmes, including youth mentoring, after-school clubs, educational support, and skills workshops. The charity also offers help for families navigating challenges such as housing or employment, helping to build resilience and community connections. Taylor Wimpey’s funding will go towards the charity’s employability programme, which aims to give young people the best possible chance of finding fulfilling careers.
Michael O’Leary, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey London, said: “Hackney Quest plays an incredibly valuable role in supporting and empowering local young people and families. We’re proud to be backing their work through this initiative and look forward to seeing our contributions grow as more homes are reserved at the development.”
Colette Allen, CEO at Hackney Quest, said: “A huge thank you to Taylor Wimpey for supporting Hackney Quest through their new development at Hertford Mill. As a long-established local charity, we’ve been working for over 36 years to support young people and families in Hackney facing a range of challenges. The generous contribution will help us strengthen our employability and counselling services, enabling us to continue providing vital, life-changing support to the community.”
