Finding the perfect first home

Previously living in Waltham Abbey and Camberwell, the couple decided the time was right to find a place they could call their own before getting married. After months of viewing developments across Kent and Essex, nothing quite felt like home until they discovered Knights Reach.

David explained: “I first came across Knights Reach back in 2023 while browsing new developments, but it wasn’t until November 2024 that we visited the site. We’d seen so many other homes, but nothing really stood out. As soon as we walked around the showhomes here, we could see they were practical, future-proofed and thoughtfully designed. The moment we stepped into the Keeford design, we knew it was the one.”

Transport links were also a key factor in the couples’ decision to move to Knights Reach. Both working in London, they needed somewhere that would make commuting straightforward while still keeping them close to family and friends. Abigail said: “Being within 45 minutes of our families was really important to us. The commute into London is easy enough and not disruptive, which makes a huge difference. We’re also within 30 minutes of most of our friends across Kent and Essex. Having Bluewater practically on our doorstep is a bonus too, as we can enjoy a bit of retail therapy without travelling far. Plus, with supermarkets and amenities between Dartford town centre and Greenhithe, we’re perfectly positioned.”
 

A home designed for the future

The couple chose the three bedroom Keeford house type, because of its balance of space and flexibility. David said: “We always knew we wanted a three bedroom house, and the Keeford felt like a cosy but practical first home. There’s plenty of storage, a spacious kitchen-diner and a good-sized, low-maintenance garden. We wanted somewhere we could host friends and family, but also a home that would grow with us when we have children. It just ticked every box.”

Since moving in, the couple have made full use of the space. The third bedroom now serves as a home office and soon-to-be content room for Abigail, while the kitchen-diner has become the heart of the home. Abigail said: “The space and cosy feel are what we love most. The kitchen is perfect for hosting, and we’ve already had movie and games nights in the living room. The utility room is such a great feature - it frees up space in the kitchen and adds extra storage, which makes a big difference.”

Choosing a new build was always part of the plan. David explained: “We wanted a low-maintenance, blank canvas that we could make our own. The customisation options were a big draw for us. With energy bills being such a hot topic, it also made sense to choose a home with modern insulation and solar panels to help keep running costs down.”

The couple also took advantage of the Key Worker Discount Scheme, using part of it towards stamp duty and the remainder on home options, helping them free up funds to personalise their space. Now settled in, they’re enjoying both their new home and the wider community. David said: “The development is so aesthetically pleasing - the yellow brick homes really stand out, and we love the peaceful community feel. Our neighbours have been so welcoming, and there’s plenty of visitor parking, which makes hosting easy. It’s just a great place to be.”

The move has already marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter. Shortly after completing, the couple went on holiday and returned as an engaged couple, beginning wedding plans in their brand new home. Abigail said: “We’ve already created such special memories here. It really does feel like a dream come true. We’re so grateful to the Knights Reach team, especially Gill, for guiding us through the process. We couldn’t be happier with our decision to choose Taylor Wimpey.”
