Easymover helps Laura take a step up the property ladder in Edinburgh

When choosing the location to take a step up the property ladder from her flat in Corstorphine in Edinburgh, project manager Laura Morrison didn’t need to look too far to discover Lauder Grove in Ratho Station.

More space to entertain

Laura is one of the first people to move into a new home at the development, and taking a step up the ladder has been an exciting time as she explains: “I lived in my flat in Corstorphine for seven years and I was very happy there, but I wanted a garden and a bigger kitchen with space to entertain so it was time for me to take a step up the ladder. It was important to me to stay in the Edinburgh area, and my decision to move came about quickly in the end.

“On a random Saturday night, I was scrolling through Instagram, and I spotted that Taylor Wimpey had started building a new development at Ratho Station. I sent them an email to get more information, I had a chat with my dad and then I went to have a look at a show home nearby in Winchburgh to get a feel for what they build. I liked what I saw. The quality of the build was clear to see, and everything felt sturdy! Within a week I had a mortgage in principle and had reserved a new home.

“I knew that my budget could stretch to a move up the ladder, and I wanted a proper home, the Blair at Lauder Grove ticked all my boxes. I didn’t consider any other properties – it’s a change of lifestyle really and since moving in I love it here. Moving just a little bit out of Edinburgh has meant that I’ve been able to maximise my budget to get the house and garden that I wanted but I still have all the local amenities around me that I know. Hermiston Gate is just a few minutes away, the airport is handy, and I pop into Livingston regularly for shopping and my gym is there too. So, for me, life in general hasn’t changed too much, I just have lots more space.

“Moving in day was so exciting. I bought my house off-plan, so I had quite a few months to wait from reserving it and paying my deposit until it was ready for me to move into. Lauren, the sales executive here is brilliant and so helpful. She stayed in regular touch with me, so I always knew what progress was being made. I enjoyed choosing my kitchen, tiling, flooring, and carpets – it made the process feel real and I am over the moon with the choices that I made.

“When it came to move-in day, it was so exciting. The team made me feel very special, and I already feel settled here I’ve spent some time making it my home and I am enjoying putting my stamp on every room.

“I’m also enjoying how energy-efficient my new house is and I am looking forward to lower energy bills. My house has solar PV panels, and I was surprised by how low my first bill was so that’s encouraging, especially as a single person – having cheaper bills is great.”

Laura feels an affinity to Taylor Wimpey as she explains: “My family’s first home was a Taylor Wimpey property in Clerwood over 35 years ago, so perhaps I was drawn to them, but I know they are a reputable housebuilder so while my decision to move was really fast it just felt right. It’s also been backed up by just how helpful everyone has been. While I’ve had very little snagging, anything that I have spotted has been resolved quickly and everyone here has gone above and beyond to make me feel welcome and comfortable. The site manager Mark is very good, I just can’t fault the site team at all – the aftercare since I’ve moved in has been great. They even put my house name sign up for me!”
